A 'FANTASY BOARDROOM" LEAGUE?

Matt Moscardi of Free Float Analytics offers a stock analysis newsletter and (wonderfully snarky) podcast focused on activism, ESG and governance insight.?His bread and butter, however, is digging into and handicapping data on the corporate governance of companies.

What are the directors’ backgrounds, vitae, connections, board experience and overlaps??What successes (and failures) are their board tenures tied to, and in what areas?

Suppose we dig even deeper on the 93,000 or so current public company board members just in the U.S. More background data on board members, their companies, their strategies, challenges and markets. Now, turn AI tools loose on the results.?We can not only uncover weak spots in a board, but suggest current, experienced board members out there in the wide world who precisely fill the gap.

The next step is the craziest, but most fun.?Fantasy sport teams are hugely popular.?Why not “fantasy board” teams??Take all the stats in the universe of directors, draft your ideal fantasy board, and use AI to predict whose team will bring best results?

Caveats??No doubt.?Stats on individual footballers or baseball players are massively available, but far less detailed (and causal) for board members.?And how do you score for the “team manager” (CEO) and “coach” (board chair)??Finally, you could only account for already seasoned board talent… there’s no way to handicap a hot young or diverse board prospect. But as data, computing power (and activism demands) on boards grow, don’t be surprised to find yourself in a future “fantasy boardroom” lineup.
