FANS WIN...now and always

In this pandemic era, first it was nurses the world came to realise were hugely underappreciated. Then came a massive onslaught of gratitude for teachers (driven by parents!) and everything they do during a day to inspire and educate students. Now it's football fans, mostly overlooked with the recent huge increases in TV and sponsorship revenue. But now like nurses and teachers fans are back at the top of the appreciation table.

The demise of the Super League is certainly a great victory for football fans but where do we go from here?

Although there is light at the end of the tunnel, we are still in the pandemic era where packed stadiums will not be the norm for the foreseeable future.

During this era I have had friends, family members and business associates make "unusual" decisions that I attribute to "lockdown logic."

In other words I feel they have made a choice they probably would not have made if we were operating normally. So I tend to cut them some slack when they make a lockdown logic decision and move on from there.

I am suggesting perhaps the football community should also look at the catastrophic announcement by the Super League as an unforced error permeated by lockdown logic. After all we have all made mistakes and while this one was huge and recent, therefore still painful, the fury will subside and there will be bigger issues to deal with in the future.

Look at the positive side of this own goal fiasco. Fans are now looked upon and cherished almost with the same gratitude as teachers and nurses in this pandemic era and that cannot be a bad thing.
