Famous Jeeps You Can Afford (Sort Of)
From Jurassic Park to The Terminator, Jeeps have had some pretty famous moments in some of Hollywood's biggest features and most memorable television shows alike. Want to get your hands on your favorite famous Jeeps from film and television? You could try to seek them out, but you probably won't be able to find (or afford) the Jeeps used in your favorite productions. Other than building them piece by piece or finding someone who has, owning these Jeeps is a pipe dream. Or is it? You can get die-cast miniature toy models of some of the screen's most famous Jeeps. Roll one along your desk from time to time or keep a few proudly displayed in your garage. These miniature die cast models vary, and can be found in multiple sizes from different brands and sellers. Enjoy!
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)
Jim Carrey's role as the obnoxious, but lovable, pet detective Ace Ventura helped his career skyrocket. During its sequel outing "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" a pair of zebra-stripped 1976 Jeep Wrangler CJ-7s are prominently featured in the film, and act as an amazing visual gag during their scenes.
Clueless (1995)
This mid-nineties coming-of-age teen romance helped put Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy on the map. The movie ironically pokes fun at Valley Girl culture, and also features a white 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ that main character Cher's dad got for her. Too bad she failed her driving test...
Godzilla (1954-Present)
Jeeps appear in most Godzilla films, probably most infamously in Invasion of the Astro Monster, where a Willys MB Jeep is featured with a giant mortar mounted to it and shells on the deck. A creative mastermind, longtime Godzilla director IshirÅ Honda featured the Jeep in the foreground as Godzilla ravages civilization during the rising action of Invasion of the Astro Monster.
The Terminator (1984)
James Cameron's sci-fi masterpiece The Terminator has a lot of cool things going for it, including a scene stealing 1983 CJ-7 Renegade that's driven by Sarah Connor while she's pregnant and traveling through Mexico at the end of the movie. I couldn't imagine a more perfect vehicle for these crucial players in mankind's fight against the machines.
Jurassic Park (1993)
Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton created blockbuster gold when they teamed up for a suspenseful tale about a dinosaur theme park where the attractions are actual dinosaurs brought back to life after hundreds of millions of years of extinction. As you can imagine, the results are not great for the park's human inhabitants. The featured Jeep is a 1992 Wrangler YJ Sahara, and for most people in my generation, it was the Jeep that started it all.
The Fast and the Furious (2015 and 2020)
The fast-paced action movies that first paired the late Paul Walker and Vin Diesel captured the attention of millions, and was a mega box office smash. Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw features a 2020 Jeep Gladiator, and while it isn't the fastest car of the bunch, it certainly is the "most capable" truck seen on screen. Furious 7 features a 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU that goes head to head with a military helicopter.
LOST (2004-2010)
ABC's surreal sci-fi drama about a missing plane and a group of castaways had a Jeep in the cast. The Dharma Initiative’s ocean blue 1977 CJ-7 is driven by a variety of the show’s most popular characters, including during one of the most famous story arcs of the series, “The Incident.â€
We all “pity the fool†that doesn’t recognize The A-Team’s Jeep. Driven by Templeton "Faceman" Peck, H.M. "Howlin' Mad" Murdock, B. A. Baracus and John "Hannibal" Smith, the 1981 CJ-7 that carried around these soldiers of fortune was a rustic red animal preserve Jeep. It wasn’t as famous as The A-Team’s van, but it was definitely the superior vehicle.
The 1979 CJ-7 Golden Eagle Driven by Daisy Dukes known as Dixie didn’t have a giant bird of prey painted on the hood for the show The Dukes of Hazard. As many of you know, the Golden Eagle special edition’s unique paint job was a part of the package. Since that was the standard look, only the “Dixie†decals needed to be added to the Jeeps used for the show.
James Bond (1962-Present)
Ian Fleming's international spy James Bond has driven his fair share of incredible cars. Of course, some Jeeps had to be included in the mix. The James Bond series had Jeeps show up in several films, including a Willy MB in Octopussy, a CJ-7 in License to Kill, a Jeep Wagoneer in Moonraker, and Jeep Cherokee XJ in A View to a Kill and Tomorrow Never Dies.
Harrison Ford’s turn as agent Jack Ryan is probably the most famous portrayal of Tom Clancy’s fictional CIA agent, and the black 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ was the best ride to handle the action of Patriot Games.
The 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ from “Field of Dreams" was driven by Ray Kinsella’s brother-in-law Mark. The Jeep is featured during one of the film’s most infamous continuity mistakes. When Ray (Kevin Costner) has a catch with his father, the Jeep can be seen parked near the light pole along the third base line. Then, the Jeep vanishes in the next shot. In the following scene the camera pans back and the Jeep is next to the pole again.
Skylar White’s 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer became an iconic symbol of the show, and in some ways, a character in its own right. With the release of the new generation of Grand Wagoneer, and all of its bells and whistles, seeing the White’s old family 4x4 is a reminder that you can’t beat the classics.
