Family
This week I had the opportunity to spend time with my mom for our birthday (and yes, I said our birthday). As much as it excites me to celebrate with her, it also takes some gearing up on my part. My mom has Alzheimer’s and anyone who has a family member with Alzheimer’s knows that this can be one of the most difficult diseases to watch your loved one struggle with. But when I think of mom, I think of the importance of family and offering support no matter how difficult a situation may be.
We don’t get to choose our family but they are the people who shape us, instill habits in us, raise and hold us up. Sometimes, these are the people who leave us in trauma simply because they don’t understand how to heal their own pains. More importantly, these are the people who build us up so that we may reach higher, push further and arrive at new heights. Being there for our family through thick and thin is ultimately what defines us, helps us stay connected and creates healthy personal growth. So this week, I celebrate mom and the unique experiences we built together as a family
