Families of Sleep Number - Meet Rachel

Did you know that “nearly 100 million Americans have adoption in their immediate family, whether this includes adopting, placing, or being adopted” (US Adoption Statistics 2022). At Sleep Number, we believe in the importance of family, and we celebrate the authentic stories that make up our wider Sleep Number story and community.??

Meet Rachel, a member of our talent acquisition team with a Sleep Number setting of 35. Rachel is married to her husband Nick of five years. They recently became first-time parents to their daughter Olivia. “We enjoy spending time with family and friends, DIY home projects, and cooking.”?

How has Sleep Number supported your family in a time of change? ?

“My husband and I pursued adoption as we looked to grow our family. From the day I shared our exciting news announcing the start of our journey to the day we got the call that changed our lives, Sleep Number has been nothing but supportive. Our lives changed in a matter of hours, which left little time for leave coverage on my team. My manager and peers stepped up and ensured the work would be covered while I was out and said, “go do what you need,”; which allowed me to focus only on the arrival of our daughter. With our new arrival, it was important for our family to take time away from work to bond with our new baby. Sleep Number supported me through paid parental bonding leave where they provide paid time off for caregivers for births, adoptions, or foster placements. Providing benefits that are equitable for all families is very important to me. I am so proud to work for a company that supports all families no matter how they are able to grow their family.” ?

How has Sleep Number empowered you to grow in your professional career? ?

“It has been so fun working for a growing company and one that supports and encourages their team members to focus on their professional development. Working in Talent Acquisition I have been given challenging work that has given me the opportunity to work on projects and create processes to implement change. I also have the front seat to see others make moves in their careers as well with an emphasis on internal promotions and growth at Sleep Number. Being able to be a part of others’ professional career journeys is one of my favorite parts of my job and something I love to share with prospective team members during the interview process.”?

What Sleep Number benefits have helped you balance your family and work life? ?

“When I first started with Sleep Number, we had a senior leader who always talked about “one, big messy life”, – always ensuring we knew we would be supported to have a healthy balance between family and work life. I quickly found this thinking was true across my department and company. Sleep Number’s ‘Work For Your Day’ philosophy was also an attractive benefit as I made the decision to join the company. This philosophy further instills a healthy balance between family and work life where I can design my work week based on my schedule whether I need to go to a personal appointment, attend a workout over lunch or pick my daughter up from daycare early. ?

As we navigate into a new stage, this “one, big messy life” has found a new meaning for us and one I continue to appreciate. It's important to me to work for an organization where I can be my authentic self at work and be my best self with my family; Sleep Number has done a wonderful job allowing me the balance necessary to be both.” ?

Congratulations to Rachel and family on their new family member. Having adopted four children, the support of your organization and team members is essential to the often quick transition necessary for those who are adopting. Kudos to Sleep Number for having a philosophy that permits team members to be authentic and find balance as they navigate the adoption process.
