The False Social Media TRAP

The Diversified Entrepreneur: Showing up is 99% of the name of the game

One common theme I've noticed on social media is the massive influx of motivational posts, speakers, and books that often suggest making drastic changes in order to achieve entrepreneurial success.

We're sold on the perfect business image, look at me, you can be like me you just need to buy my courses, buy my products or services, and become RICH tomorrow GUARANTEED.??

It’s all garbage, the truth is real entrepreneurs don’t need to sell you shit.? Why would they need to if they are successful entrepreneurs in the first place?? Think about it.

This idea that we aren’t yet enough.

But the reality is that you can start right where you are, right now.

You can learn from your experiences and the experiences of leading entrepreneurs in each of your diversification sectors, use them to guide you on your journey. You don't have to be in a certain place or change who you are entirely to start achieving your diversification entrepreneurial goals and changing your life.

One thing we’re good at is showing up. It’s our slow & steady grind strategy.? If you put yourself out there on a regular basis, while adding value (and understanding your customers’ needs) – good stuff will happen.

Just by staying in the game.

I suck at going viral & we do ZERO marketing.

My IG game is weak AF…?

***We don’t even have a website anymore if you can believe this in 2023. Disclaimer: this is not marketing advice.

But as someone who decided to take an unconventional path in business, once in a while I get questioned on our diversification strategy.? Simon, maybe you should focus on your core business.? Be careful, I'm not sure about that new project of yours. It's a slippery slope.? Are you sure, I would reconsider given the current market conditions… If I were in your shoes I would…??

I can tell one thing, It’s a good thing we didn’t listen to our critics and here’s a real life tangible & attainable case study.

Commercial Real Estate Diversification Case Study: Build it they will come

As I started to venture into commercial industrial real estate over two decades ago, with no experience, and feeling lost, I doubted my choice. But the truth is, I didn't have to completely reinvent myself to start to achieve my diversification entrepreneurial goals.? Fast forward? two decades and we own and manage over 100 000 sq ft of commercial\industrial\residential real estate.?

All admit that I have expensive and complicated taste when it comes to design builds and over time we’ve learned the hard way that going over the top isn’t always a winning formula.? Our most prized real estate possessions are boring, boxy but badass’ cash...flow* producing industrial space. Ya that’s right! slab on grade, with your run of the mill gray metal siding and a flat roof.? The lesson here is you don’t need reinvent the wheel, start small, design-build smart in the right location, rent... rinse and repeat.? At the end of the day “beauty is in the eye of the be"holder”. #ownit

In order to get what you want, you have to deserve what you want in the form of sweat equity. The world isn’t crazy enough to reward a bunch of undeserving people.
