False "humility"? is VERY unattractive!

False "humility" is VERY unattractive!

In 2007, I listened to Jim talk about who deserved the “credit” during the President’s Club presentation at the Hotel del Coronado.

Like mine, his team had performed at a level that “got us there.”

He went on and on about how great his team was, how they “got him here,” and so on.

Truthfully, Jim’s team was terrific. I had firsthand knowledge of this truth.

But what about Jim?

What credit did he deserve?

Did he do anything to deserve the award?

Of course, he did.

I couldn’t help but think, “why isn’t he willing and able to take any credit?”

I had to know.

Before I left the company in 2009, I sought out a friendship with Jim because I heard “uh lot” of me in his transferred “credit."

Jim, like me, struggled with self-hate.

And that is the point here:

False humility is ALWAYS a sign of self-hate. Always.

Never taking any credit for work, brilliance, ideas, initiative, etc., is not humility.

False humility needs and survives on a steady diet of solicited, deceptive, and constant attention.

True humility is about echoes, not words.

The humblest people you know are known by the echo of their impact and influence first, and their words second, in some and most cases, NEVER!

The real issue or problem with false humility is deception.

Yes, the deception.

False humility and self-hate have a bs covenant relationship staged on the foundation of deception. The two protect one another.

To not take what is yours is to dishonor your gifting or be a poor steward of it.

People, if ever, are only fooled for a minute or time.

“They” know who did the work and who didn’t.

..... ..... .....

Spare your team(s),

Take what is actually yours,

And save the theatrics for your journal.

Very interesting article, it takes courage and true humility to accept it. By recognizing the 'false' one realizes the 'true'. Thanks for sharing!
