Falling Out of Love with Osteopathy

Falling Out of Love with Osteopathy

Falling out of love with osteopathy

I rarely describe Monday mornings as magical, but today was an exception. I needed to get up early to walk my dogs before starting my day and completely lucked out. It was a sharp, wintery, frosty morning in the highlands of Scotland, providing the most gorgeous start to the day. ????

Before the walk Facebook showed me a memory. An old friend had gotten married 11 years ago today. I suddenly remembered a speech from that wedding about love, starting with:

"I like you because..." and "I love you despite..."

This made me think about myself and my practice 10-15 years ago. I liked getting patients better, adored problem-solving with tricky cases, and loved my sports injury work, even if it meant getting up early on Sundays and coming home covered in mud. ????

I loved running my practice despite the admin headaches, my lack of work-life balance, and the continuous struggle to make the business work without me.

I loved it ...until I didn't.

The first time I realized I was burnt out was when I?working as full-time osteopath, treating patients for 40-50 hours a week, and then spending evenings/weekends as a clinic owner handling admin, figuring out marketing, recruiting, and trying to reduce the business's reliance on me. ????

That's why I love Monday mornings like today. I get to spend the rest of the day?helping practitioners like you to fast-track, skip the burnout, and avoid the "I don't know if this is fun anymore" phase.

Anyway, I hope your Monday morning was kind. ??

Nice piece Nicola. I wonder how many are in the same boat. Does overwhelm take the joy out of the things we love. Is burnout caused by prolonged overwhelm … have a good day. You’ve not taken to ice bathing in the loch yet?
