Falling Back in Love with LinkedIn

Falling Back in Love with LinkedIn

This time last year, this was the last type of article I thought I would be writing today!

Yes, I'm always grateful for this platform and all the fabulous people like you that are active here, sharing your wonderful content and comments. But, I was definitely falling out of love with the shifting algorithms and feeling like I was talking to myself.

In reality, It's been a story of two halves this year. The first, where I was banging my head against a brick wall; and then came the shift. A build up to the one post that has changed my business and life.

Now I know that may sound dramatic, but the results of acting on the feedback from that post floating a little idea, has brought me to a whole new venture with an incredible community of people on a mission to make an impact.

So what changed? How did I move from 'Impressionless to Impressing'?

Here are my top 5 thoughts....

?? In July I stumbled across Sarah Buckland 's LinkedIn challenge where for the first time I measured my activity and stats on the platform. I could see the direct correlation between my actions and results. I'd always known the power in engaging and commenting; but this was the catalyst to going back to basics on the platform. To connection first.

?? I got fresh pairs of eyes on my content and started to play with my headlines and the all important hook; particularly after feedback from Laura Burton and Amy Atkinson . I enlisted the help of AI to tweak my ideas and create more impactful one liners https://headlines.sharethrough.com/ being a favourite

?? I immersed myself in the right networking spaces and communities for me, surrounding myself with like minded, vibrant business owners with Laura Brunton , Fiona Ross and the Business Junction ; and Emmie Faust and Female Founders Rise . I celebrated the impact they were having on me and my business, tagging people in posts I'd met online or in person, celebrating them too. I stopped spending time on Facebook. Instead I built relationships through LI DMs and Virtual Cuppas

?? I started using Linkedin's tools more effectively from introducing weekly LI Lives and having a branded Featured Section to be proud of, to polls being more targeted to add value on LinkedIn. I learnt new insights from Jane Bayler and got ahead of the game with shorts and other features

?? I got more personal and vulnerable, embracing video too. I took a more conversational approach to my content, with language that made it feel more real and spoken. I discussed everything from my health story with the perimenopause to talking about the impact of the riots on my mixed race daughter. One of my best performing posts of the year? My 80 year young parents on WhatsApp!

None of the above is rocket science; just leaning into my stories, connecting with and supporting others; and getting savvy with a variety of LinkedIn functions to get visible. Lots of small considered steps that, with the compound effect, led to some big leaps.

And THAT post? By no means viral, but one that lay the foundations to all that came next. By building on it, taking the responses and keeping all those interested engaged, I was able to grow the momentum and take the idea to the next level. To ask opinions through polls and posts, to reveal key steps and let it all unfold on LinkedIn.

And now? Having had an unprecedented success from concept to conference in 8 weeks (all through Linkedin) with the Speak and Shine Summit, we are now launching the next phase of the venture. Look out for the Speak and Shine Collection and all that comes under this exciting new umbrella in January. Save the date for our launch party 9th January 12.30pm GMT.

All that remains to say is a huge THANK YOU for every like, comment, share, read of this article, listen to my live and being part of my world. I am truly grateful for every gesture of support and interest. I can not wait for 2025 and all that's to come.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.

But, before I go, it would be remiss of me not to mention some tools to help you have a fabulous, festive season with your photography!
