The Fall... The Success

The Fall... The Success

I would like to share a story of one of my great learning experiences.

This happened to me when I was 13 years old in the year 1991. The incident happened when I was in my 8 standards. I was part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC-Delhi) and after completing a 7 days camp I was awarded the best performing cadet of that Camp. This award was to be given to me by the school Principal and naturally it would happen in the School assembly where all the students of School are present. Just to give you the gravity of the situation our school was one of the largest schools in town (during those times) we had around 400-600 students just in one standard.

The day of the award ceremony had arrived and I was fully dressed in my NCC uniform waiting in the line to be called on the stage to take my award. I was so nervous that when I was called to the stage I completely blanked out and fully forgot how to even walk and fell flat on the stage. At the moment I could feel my heart was racing way faster than the rate of thoughts in my mind, and all my attempts to get up quickly were failing miserably, at the same time I could hear the laughter in the assembly picking up momentum and could also hear some of my teachers having a good laugh. I somehow managed to gather myself and get up, walked to my principle, collected my award, and got off the stage. By the time the event was over the following things happened:

  1. Everyone knew me and was talking about me
  2. My fellow students approached me and obviously, they were laughing but now they knew my name
  3. All the teachers knew me by name

My learning

  1. That I was popular and now known to everyone and this was a Golden opportunity to build my image
  2. Ever great fall gives you great learning and appreciation
  3. Look for positives even in toughest situations and make the best of it
  4. It's not the success which matters always its the journey and how you able to get up from your every fall to live another day with a smile on your face.

I hope this story inspires some of you during these tough times of Covid19. Its time we stand up, dust ourselves and get ready for the next challenge...
