Fall Internship Experience at OUC

Fall Internship Experience at OUC

The last fourteen weeks were filled with learning, collaborations, new connections, contributions, and fun. As I approach the end of my Fall '23 internship at OUC, I look back to my fantastic manager Edward Thomas , mentor Maria Cabreja , and my team for allowing me to work on many projects and learn and contribute during this period. I have helped my team in analyzing and optimizing inventory through some projects listed below -

1)??? Finding optimal order quantity – Changes to supplier policies provided me with an opportunity to analyze the historical usage patterns over the past five years specifically for transformers, wire and cables, meters, and modules commodities. This analysis enabled me to develop precise forecasts for critical items, ensuring that OUC is well-prepared for this and the upcoming hurricane season. This thorough analysis enabled the strategic allocation to meet all the demands and ensure that the company is utilizing monthly supplier slots efficiently to maintain adequate stock levels.

2)??? Calculating the actual order lead time (A-OLT) – I took the initiative in calculating actual lead times for materials over the years, as delivery dates could be slightly different from promised dates. This proactive approach will help prevent potential supply chain disruptions and ensure that the company can meet its operational requirements.

3)??? Forecasting financial impact - I performed an analysis forecasting the financial impact of warehousing costs due to pending work order inventory. This precautionary report includes ready-to-work-on work orders, WO inventory, and costs associated with that available-unutilized inventory.

Projects like these are encouraging me to expand my knowledge base and enhance my analytical skills. I'm gaining a comprehensive understanding of inventory control principles. I hope my contributions helped the company achieve its objectives of maintaining efficient inventory levels and ensuring a RELIABLE supply of electricity and water services to the city of Orlando.

I am super thankful to my manager for letting me continue this internship in the Spring semester as well. I look forward to learning and contributing more. Also thankful to the supply chain management program at The University of Texas at Dallas for providing me with a strong educational foundation.
