Fall Giving Tackles Steep Rise In Child Poverty

Dear YouGiveGoods Community,

Last week a?study by the Census Bureau?released disturbing findings on income and poverty in the U.S., most notably that child poverty in the United States more than doubled in 2022.?

It's timely that this news has hit as we head into fall, a season associated with giving thanks and giving gifts. At YouGiveGoods we have seen first-hand how difficult times can bring an outpouring of compassion and generosity, and we're confident that this news will be met with increased community support.

And, we know our YouGiveGoods community cares in particular about kids. Coming out of a busy school supply season (see more below), raising diapers now as part of Diaper Need Awareness Week, and heading into holiday toy drive season, our community does not falter when it comes to supporting kids in need!

Hispanic Heritage Month

We're loving celebrating Hispanic and Latino culture and history during Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 - 10/15). Did you know that in addition to Veterans Day on November 11, November is National Military Families Month? You can pay tribute to a veteran in your life by supporting your local veterans center or homeless shelter (sadly, veterans make up 11% of the homeless population). It's not too early to start planning your Thanksgiving/Holiday Food Drive or your Holiday Toy Drive. As we mentioned above, kids and families could really use our support this year. THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and donors for an amazing school supply drive season. Our pre-packaged school supply kits continue to be a hit with donors and kids alike with 8,810 kits donated containing a total of 126,987 essential school supplies. In addition, our drives raised roughly 65,000 individual school supply items including backpacks, binders, notebooks, pencils, calculators and much more. Tens of thousands of kids arrived on their first day of school 2023 confident, prepared and ready to tackle the school year thanks to you!
