A fall evening

It was the first night of Autumn when I met my friend’s new baby. We were sitting on his patio and he said something along the lines of:

 It’s crazy when you look back. Every moment that preceded this one culminated in this child. The moment I moved here. The moment I met my wife. The moment we decided to move in together. To get married. And all the little detours along the way…

 We reflected.

We talked about a few of those moments- some uncomfortable, some unpleasant, some joyful and beautiful, some devastating. And everything in between. Every one of those moments led to this one on his back deck, with his beautiful, baby girl.

It’s not a rare occasion that I look at this present moment and feel disheartened.

There’s quite a bit of anger in the world right now. There’s quite a bit of fear. You don’t have to look far to find grief and sadness, longing and disappointment.

And yet.

I have great hope.

For every moment that preceded this first night in Autumn led to meeting my friend's beautiful baby girl. And every moment that we’re experiencing right now- every frustrating, joyous, hopeless, promising moment- is what’s going to yield something beautiful in the future.

That’s not to say there’s nothing to do.

It's just to say: I believe that this moment is planting the seed for something beautiful to come.
