Nature in the City
Connecting everyone in San Francisco to nature by cultivating and conserving local habitats.
BART Canopy Living Roofs: San Francisco, at 4%, has one of the lowest tree canopy covers compared to other US cities. However,?this makes sense!?The city comprises the?unique diversity of an ocean-side peninsula made up of sandy to rocky and clay soils, hills, springs, seasonal wetlands, beaches, and bay-edge wetlands. Bragging rights: San Francisco is ranked #3 in the US for parks and open spaces!?In fact, our city boasts a remarkable diversity of parks and open space at nearly 18% of the city’s land.?Now, Nature in the City is adding more biodiversity as the BART Canopy Living Roofs project progresses.?The BART Canopy Living Roofs sponsorship campaign launches early 2023!?To learn more about sponsorship, email [email protected].?Read more?here.
Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation $50,000 Grant: The Moore Foundation awarded $50,000 to Nature in the City in August. We are full of appreciation! The funding will strengthen our habitat stewardship program, and climate work,?and help us build capacity across the organization. Thank you to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation for aligning with our mission!
Climate Career Corps: Nature in the City and Enterprise for Youth launched its inaugural Climate Career Corps this summer! “I have learned how to be a better leader, activist, and environmentalist with my job at Buena Vista Park. So much so that I want to pursue a career?taking care of the Earth," says Delara Armijo, a high school intern.?Read more?here.
