The Falk family in S?rfors chose Samsung's EHS Mono R290 as their heating solution ??

New! S?rfors is a small community outside Ume? in Sweden. This is where the Falk family lives, consisting of Marcus, Desirée, their 5-year-old daughter Juni and their dog Selma.

The house they live in was built in the 1930s and is about 170m2 with two floors. The house has recently been renovated in a very aesthetic and careful way to ensure that its original charm is preserved.

It was time to do something about the heating! The heating previously consisted of a combination of an electric boiler with underfloor heating, electric radiators and an air-to-air heat pump. The family felt that the heating was expensive and the temperature irregular. It was a challenge to maintain indoor temperature of 18 degrees when it was cold outside. The air-to-air heat pump was located in the hallway, but the home’s floor plan limited the effective distribution of heat to other parts of the house.

In the north of Sweden, winters can get very cold, -30°C is not unusual. This means that it became costing to heat the house through traditional electrical methods. Something had to be done about the heating system. ‘In our previous home, we had geothermal heating, but that wasn’t an option this time. Besides, drilling is quite costly,’ says Desirée.

Samsung's new air-to-water heat pump - the EHS Mono R290 The selected heating solution was Samsung's EHS Mono R290 air-to-water heat pump. A 12 kW outdoor unit was installed on the north side of the house. The heat pump is a 2-zone system, with the capacity to heat two different zones - in this case, underfloor heating and radiators. The unit blends seamlessly into its surroundings and one major advantage is its exceptionally quiet operation. The model the family chose offers 100% heat capacity down to -10°C1.

More even temperatures The indoor unit installed was a Samsung ClimateHub with an integrated water heater, placed in the bathroom. The design blends seamlessly with other appliances such as the washing machine and dryer, thanks to its neutral colour and compact size. ‘It’s designed so well that you hardly notice it,’ says Desirée.

The unit’s display is user-friendly and makes it easy to understand how the system operates. The family is also pleased with the amount of domestica hot water.

The Falk family has used their new heating system for almost a year now. Before the move to the EHS R290 heat pump, there was a significant difference in temperature between the upstairs and downstairs. That issue has been completely resolved. Now, the temperatures are evenly distributed leading to comfortable temperatures throughout the house. The air-to-air heat pump is still there, but it’s no longer in use for heating. ‘We chose to keep it so we can enjoy air conditioning on hot summer days,’ Desirée adds.

‘After we replaced the electric radiators with hydronic ones, I can now hang up mittens and put shoes to dry. That's an added bonus,’ Desirée adds.
