It's been said, "Fake it until you make it".
You've probably heard it. So, what's wrong with that?
What if I were to tell you that's the worst advice, absolutely bad counsel, and that you should refute that idea to anyone who says it to you? Run! Don't just walk away.
Our society today values "real" and "genuine." A word of caution: do not overproduce yourself; do not represent yourself as anything more than what you truly are. Instead, focus on what you are fully capable of and your unwavering commitment to growing, learning, and developing your full potential.
Please understand me. Believe in your capabilities. Communicate what you believe is your?potential. State in realistic terms your value. If you are an advocate for "change," if you are solving a problem, and any business is designed to solve problems, with your specific skill or service, then communicate it. But recognize, in today's hypersensitive and information-based society, a "phony" can be spotted and "felt" a mile away. Faking it? It's just not worth the risk.
Think about it—a misrepresentation. It's the same with any negative?energy and in any room, whether in person, online, on the phone, or in writing. Have you ever had a "bad vibe" or a bad feeling about someone??Sure! As a society today, we are more educated and more acutely aware than at any time in history. The information is out there, and all we have to do is open the door and let it in. And that's really a good thing.
So, why would you even consider ...?Faking it?
Misrepresentation and imposter syndrome are founded in the root of the idea that one can imposter one's way and fake it through life. How do I know? I've been there. Read my story about being homeless.?Click here! Admitting the problem, as Dave would say... It was me! All me! I was the problem.
Today, anyone can pay as little as $37 and become a "certified" something professional. But does this make them any more qualified? What experience(s) and what results would indicate their ability to solve any problem effectively? It's "faking it" at a high level. Perhaps you can explain how a two-week certification process can in any way compensate for decades and years of problem-solving in real-life business experience.

"90% of solving a problem is admitting there is one."
Many corporations, organizations, entrepreneurs, and leaders have come and gone, some catastrophically, because they failed to admit and correctly analyze a problem. I've included a sample below. Click on the link below. I'm curious: what do you think the problem is??

If you are in any business and your sales and profit are average or worse, your business is underperforming, what do you believe the problem is? There may be more than one. But ignoring the problem, not recognizing it, or not taking decisive action to address it is not a solution, especially if the problem is within us as leaders.
A common leadership failure is knowing the problem but failing to take immediate and decisive action Involve others. The wisest move is to get wise and varied opinions. A competent leadership team is invaluable. Coaching and mentorship are confidential and extremely valuable. Remember, too; you can not read the label of the jar you are in. When solving problems, isolation is never the best solution. Engage your team or trusted advisors.
Many leaders today are afraid that seeking advice or help may imply incompetence?and diminish their ability in the eyes of others. The opposite is true. To let go of the notion that you need to be "self-made"-no one is entirely self-made, and truth be told, people can see right through you. Results have a way of revealing truth.
Are you faking it? Ask: In what areas of my life am I being less than genuine? Why?
