A Faithful Word: My Prayer Every Time I Walk Into Work

Today is National Doctor's Day. It is nice to be thanked and honored for all the things we physicians do on a daily basis. It takes a lot of hard work and personal sacrifice to become a physician. Yes, the rewards - both financial and professional - can be immense, but it is no small feat to be given the honor and privilege to care for patients as a doctor. For this, I am eternally grateful to the Lord our God.
As such, every time I walk into work - anywhere I work in the country - I say this prayer, and I want to share it with you on this National Doctor's Day 2023:
Lord my God, I disavow my might, my power and my knowledge and seek solace and refuge in Your Might, Your Power, and Your Knowledge, O Strong One.
In Your Name, The Healer, do I begin my shift, Lord my God, and in Your Name, The Healer, do I end my shift, Lord my God.
Lord my God, nothing is easy except that which You make easy, and You make sadness and difficulty - if You so will - easy.
My Lord! Expand for me my chest! Make my affair easy for me! And untie a knot in my tongue that they may understand my speech.
The last paragraph is the prayer of Moses when he was charged by God to go onto Pharaoh and take the Children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt.
This prayer is a source of strength and solace, and it helps give me the ability to care for the very sick patients who come into my care in the ICU. Happy Doctor's Day to all my physician colleagues across the country and the world. Thank you so much for all you do to care for patients.

1 年I respect your freedom of religion, but I suffer from religious trauma. I do not appreciate receiving these unsolicited messages of prayer in my in-box. Please respect those of us whose beliefs differ from yours. Thank you. Respect is a two-way street.
