Faithful in Small Things: Lessons from My Career Journey

Faithful in Small Things: Lessons from My Career Journey

Sometimes, we get so caught up in chasing big dreams that we overlook the value of small beginnings. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my career journey, it’s that the small things, the seemingly minor roles, tasks, and opportunities—build the foundation for greater responsibilities.

I didn’t start in my current role in the investment sector. My journey began with Internal Auditing in a real estate company. It wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me the importance of details, accuracy, and how the smallest discrepancies can affect the bigger picture. More importantly, it gave me a front-row seat to how businesses operate behind the scenes.

Then came my transition to sales in the financial services sector. This was a complete shift—suddenly, I wasn’t dealing with numbers and reports but with people and relationships. It pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned to communicate value, to listen actively, and to understand the needs and aspirations of clients. It was here that I realized the power of trust and the responsibility that comes with helping others make financial decisions.

The next chapter brought me into the Financial Technology sector, where innovation and disruption were the names of the game. Here, I understood how financial ecosystems work—how each player, from traditional institutions to startups, contributes to a larger vision of financial inclusion and accessibility.

After that, I ventured into Management Consulting and eventually into Key Accounts Management/Business Development in digital banking. The roles gave me broader exposure, working on strategic partnerships and navigating the rapidly evolving digital finance space, creating processes and roadmap for companies to scale up their businesses. I learned how technology is transforming financial services and how adaptability is key in a fast-paced industry.

And now, I find myself in the investment sector. Looking back, every role I took wasn’t random; each step prepared me for the next. From auditing to sales, business development, fintech, and investments—every experience added a layer of understanding. Together, they’ve given me a holistic view of how businesses cycle through growth, innovation, and sustainability.

The Value of Being Grateful and Faithful in Every Role

Each role came with its own set of challenges. But I learned to approach each one with gratitude and curiosity. Instead of rushing to get to the "next big thing," I focused on what I could learn in the moment. I realized that when you are faithful in small things—doing them well, giving your best effort, and learning from them—you are preparing yourself for bigger opportunities ahead.

Every meeting I attended, every client I assisted, every project I worked on—no matter how small it seemed—contributed to the professional I am today. These small steps weren’t just tasks to complete; they were lessons, each one equipping me for the next stage of my journey.

Lessons I’ve Learned Along the Way

  1. No role is too small if you’re learning from it. Every experience adds value. Embrace it.
  2. Stay curious and open. Sometimes the biggest growth comes from the most unexpected places.
  3. Gratitude changes your perspective. Instead of looking at what you don’t have, be thankful for what you do. Gratitude opens your eyes to opportunities others might miss.
  4. The small things prepare you for big responsibilities. How you handle the small tasks determines how ready you are for bigger ones.

Final Thoughts

If you find yourself in a role that doesn’t seem to align with your long-term goals, don’t dismiss it. Ask yourself: What can I learn here? How does this contribute to my bigger picture? You might be surprised at how everything eventually connects.

Be faithful in small things. Do them well. Learn from them. Be grateful for them. Because when the big opportunities come—and they will—you’ll be ready.
