Faith Is Greater Than Fear

I spend a lot of time on airplanes. About 200,000 miles a year. I’m actually on one as I write th- is blog. What would probably surprise you (but not the poor passengers who sit next to me) is that I hate flying. I’m terrified of turbulence. I’m an armrest grabber, a pray out loud passenger and one who frequently gasps at even the slightest turbulence. If my husband happens to be traveling with me, he just looks at me, shakes his head and holds my hand.
I share this because facing our fears is uncomfortable. It’s hard, scary and takes great courage.
Every time I walk on a plane, I’m convinced that it’s going to fall out of the sky. I have to continually remind myself that that just doesn’t happen.
But I recognize that if I’m going to get from where I am to where I want to go, I’m going to have to face my fear, trust in God’s protection and get on the plane. Again and again.
Fears come in all shapes and sizes: fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown. But our Father teaches us throughout history that fear is a lie of the devil and that we must trust in Him and lay our fears at His feet.
I have a sticky note on my mirror that I read every morning. It says, “What we worry about the most often reveals where we trust God the least.” It’s a healthy reminder for me to examine the areas of my life that I worry over the most and practice turning those worries over to God instead.
This can easily apply to business as well. Especially during strange and unpredictable economic times such as these that we are in now. Fear of adding another employee and taking on additional overhead. Fear of pursuing that new project and the monetary and human capital it takes to do so. Fear of moving into a new line of business or into a new market. Or perhaps chasing a dream of opening your first business, or your tenth.
When those fears creep into your thoughts, pray. Ask Him for clarity and direction. He will help guide you and provide for you if you will be still and listen. Easier said than done, I know.
He will bring you the answers, the resources, the path and the people to overcome your fears and tackle your dreams.
I’m here if you need another person as you wade through challenging business decisions. I’m happy to lend an ear and a hand. I can be reached at [email protected].
