Community

Faith, Business & Mission

Too often, we assume there’s an inherent tension between faith and business, as if profit and Kingdom impact are separate entities. The Marketplace Leaders Dinner at Sanctus Church past Tuesday night was a powerful reminder, that intentionally integrated faith and business is a mission in response to our calling as light and salt of the world.

Philip Yan, Director of the Centre for Redemptive Entrepreneurship (CRE), had a conversation with Jazmine Funes and Steven Funes, owners of Chick-fil-A Scarborough Town Centre, who shared their story of integrating faith and business.

For those of us building, leading, and operating a business, we’re not just running the business—we have a part in shaping culture, restoring integrity in industries, and blessing people and community in tangible ways. Faith fuels one’s business; the two are not competing against each other.?

Market Trends

More than 1 billion people are now watching podcasts on YouTube every month

The growth of podcast consumption on YouTube comes after Google Podcasts was phased out in mid-2024. In the U.S., about 31% of weekly podcast listeners choose YouTube as their preferred service, over Spotify (27%) and Apple Podcasts (15%), per Edison Podcast Metrics research released last October.

In 2024, users watched more than 24 billion minutes of podcasts monthly on living-room devices, the company said.

Spotlight - Community First

VC Firm Slow Ventures Is Investing $60 Million in Content Creators.?

With over $60 million from institutional investors like the University of Michigan and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Slow hopes to profit on what Megan Lightcap, partner at Slow Creator, calls an “inversion of business-building.”

“It’s community first, vertical first, and then you launch products and services on top of that,” Lightcap says, “versus what we’ve historically seen—two kids with an idea, coming up with a product or company and then going to find customers for it down the road.”
