Business Mastery - In the book, "How the Mighty Fall" Jim Collins outlines the five stages of decline in an organization. They are:

1. Hubris Born of Success.
2. Undisciplined Pursuit of More.
3. Denial of Risk and Peril.
4. Grasping for Salvation.
5. Capitulation to Irrelevance or Death.

Spiritual Maturity - When we face failure or make a mistake our ego tries to excuse itself. We make excuses by shifting the blame to other people or to circumstances that are beyond our control. This is dangerous for the soul because pride keeps us from correcting our faults because we don't acknowledge them in the first place. It takes humility and courage to expose our faults, acknowledge them, and address them. Alexandre Havard defines humility as living in the truth about oneself. So, by excusing our mistakes we might satisfy our prideful nature but in actuality, it blinds us making us incapable of seeing the true situation at hand which impedes the maturation of our spiritual life.
