Faith-based Marketing is Alive and Well.

I was in a meeting the other day and stated that I was praying our new messaging would work, and the joking response was.

"You can't use God in that way."

I laughed, but that comment stuck with me. Like it always works with God, this discussion has come up several times in the days since that meeting. Because each of us was made on purpose for a purpose, we can use our faith to grow our businesses. I believe that we see a surge in faith-based marketing because we see a revival in the church.

So, while I am a newbie at this new element we are adding into our agency, I've learned a lot in the past eight months that I would like to share.

1) If you are touching people's lives - you are a minister.

That means if you are in the service business, meeting with clients, or in a more direct line of work like nursing - the more you are a representation of God, the more you WILL grow. You will increase because you are fulfilling your purpose.

2) It's not difficult. It just means that you turn it over. For every new marketing effort, new product line, a new process - you review your messaging based on this question.

"Does this touch someone in a meaningful way?"

Moreover, you can go much deeper with this - but this is an excellent place to start.

3) Think about the follow-through. You received a new lead, now what? This is where the magic happens. You have an opportunity to review your processes.

How do you answer the phone? What do you say to make someone's day brighter? How do you train your employees to exemplify goodness? How do you handle failures?

In another God- wink this AM a friend of mine shared this video on Facebook. This video is faith-based customer service (marketing in action). Airport Coffee - Faith In Action by Goalcast This is exactly what I'm talking about.

4) Get with like-minded people. We are re-evaluating all of our services based on how we want to make a difference for others.

I have been awoken to the fact that I have the opportunity (big or little) to impact someone's livelihood.

Also, in many cases, someone's purpose. I no longer can take that for granted.

Make sure that you surround yourself with others who understand that everything you do...bringing someone a coffee, smiling at a new client, easing someone's fears, apologizing when you're wrong...all of those things are essential to success when you are living out your purpose.

This doesn't mean that you no longer need all the other elements of a good marketing plan. Quite the opposite, we are to use the information that we have to make an even greater impact.

The real power of faith-based marketing is that

it starts with a prayer, but it leads to a full-blown strategy.

A strategy based on how you want others to view you and what you want your product or service to provide. A strategy based on principles of faith, hope, and love. Now, what could be more joyful than that?
