Fair Trade Certified Coffee in China 2021

We are proud to announce that for the 14th year in a row we have been certified by Fair Trade USA as a Fair Trade Certified coffee roaster in China.  

作为公平贸易咖啡的烘焙商，我们已经通过了美国公平贸易组织的2020-2021年度认证。这是我们连续14年通过美国公平贸易组织的审核，为此我们感到非常骄傲。

 Fair Trade USA connects suppliers and producers who are committed to fair trade, sustainability, and reinvesting profits in their own communities.

美国公平贸易组织致力于公平贸易、可持续发展，以及将利润再投资于自己社区的供应商和生产商联系起来。

When we first attained this status in 2007, we were among the earliest, if not the first, Fair Trade coffee roasters operating in China. We are proud to be a leader in this practice, and we hope that other businesses will follow suit.

自2007年初次通过公平贸易组织认证，我们是中国较早的公平贸易咖啡烘焙商之一。我们很自豪能成为这一实践的倡导者，我们希望其他企业也能效仿。

Below we will touch on all of these topics. The article is a bit long, thank you for reading.

 1.  What is “Fair Trade”?  什么是公平贸易？ 

Fair trade is a global movement made up of a diverse network of producers, companies, consumers, advocates, and organizations putting people and planet first. Based on the simple idea that the products bought and sold every day are connected to the livelihoods of others, fair trade is a way to make a conscious choice for a better world. A choice for Fair Trade Certified? goods is a choice to support responsible companies, empower farmers, workers, and fishermen, and protect the environment. In other words, it’s a world-changing way of doing business. 

公平贸易是一个由生产者、公司、消费者、倡导者和组织组成的全球运动，以人和地球为先。基于每天买卖的产品都与他人的生计息息相关的简单理念，公平贸易是一种为更美好的世界做出自觉选择的方式。选择公平贸易认证商品就是选择支持负责任的公司，赋予农民、工人和渔民权力，并保护环境。换句话说，这是一种改变世界的经营方式。

2. What does fair trade certification mean? 公平贸易认证标志的含义是什么？

When you see a product with the Fair Trade Certified seal, you can be sure it was made according to rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards. To ensure that the people making Fair Trade Certified goods work in safe conditions, protect the environment, build sustainable livelihoods, and earn additional money to empower and uplift their communities.

当你看到带有公平贸易认证标志的商品时，你可以确信它时根据严格的社会、环境和经济标准制造的，即公平贸易认证产品确保其生产者在安全的条件下工作，保护环境，建立可持续的生计，并赚取额外的金钱来增强和提升他们的社区。

A note on organic certification for our Fair Trade coffees: Fair Trade certification and organic certification are separate certifications. So before we move to the next section, we wanted to mention that the Fair Trade coffees which we supply here in China are also certified organic outside of China (we choose coffees which have both certifications). However, these coffees are not certified organic inside of China, so are not considered organic products in China and so we do not market them as such. We do have a line of Chinese Certified Organic coffees which you can find on our various platforms. We will be doing an article on organic coffee products in China in the near future. 

请注意，关于有机咖啡的问题，我们所经营的公平贸易咖啡，在境外也通过了有机认证，但在中国境内没有做过有机认证，所以不被认为是有机产品，因此我们不作为有机产品销售。我们另外有中国有机认证的产品，可以各大平台找我们。我们近期会有一篇关于有机咖啡在中国的文章。

3. Why do we put so much emphasis on being a member of Fair Trade and roasting Fair Trade Certified coffees? 

为什么我们一直坚持成为公平贸易的一员？为什么我们坚持烘焙公平贸易咖啡？ 

The ideal of fair trade was part of our company credo going back to our inception in 1994. Among other values, the credo describes our responsibility to our employees. This commitment to our team represents the other side of Fair Trade practice. While it is important to import from fair traders in other countries, it is also imperative that we care for the workers who make our business possible. We do this by providing equal opportunity, competitive compensation, safe work environments, and competent management. 

追溯到1994年成立之初，我们就把公平贸易的理想作为公司信条之一。在其他价值观中，信条描述了我们对员工的责任。对我们团队的承诺代表了公平贸易实践的另一面。虽然从其他国家的公平贸易商进口是很重要的，但是我们也必须关心使我们的业务得以顺利进行的工人。我们我们通过提供平等的机会、有竞争力的薪酬、安全的工作环境和称职的管理来实现这一目标。

In addition to our credo, one of our five core values is “environmental protection through coffee.” We consider fair trade to be an important component of our Sustainable Philosophy, because when communities have healthy economies and human dignity, they can appreciate the value of a healthy ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems support robust communities, and robust communities foster future generations of coffee growers—and coffee drinkers.

除了我们的信条之外，我们的五大核心价值之一就是 "通过咖啡保护环境"。我们认为公平贸易是我们可持续发展理念的重要组成部分，因为当社区拥有健康的经济和人类尊严时，他们就能体会到健康生态系统的价值。健康的生态系统支持着强大的社区，而强大的社区则培养了未来几代的咖啡种植者和咖啡饮用者。

This last point highlights a simpler truth, which is that fair trade practice is simply a reflection of our understanding that all things on earth are connected. Our suppliers, our customers, our stockholders, and ourselves are all part of the same global community, so one group’s loss is not the other’s gain. Our business, which relies on a plant that is grown by people, is not a zero-sum game; it is an act of global cooperation and mutual profit. 

最后一点突出了一个更简单的事实，即公平贸易做法表明了我们的态度，即地球上的所有事物都是相互联系的。我们的供应商、我们的客户、我们的股东和我们自己都是同一个全球社区的一部分，所以一个群体的损失不是另一个群体的收益。我们的事业，依靠的是一株株由人种出来的植物，不是零和博弈，而是全球合作、互利共赢的行为。

We are proud of this renewed achievement, not just because it reflects our core values, but because it adds value to our already outstanding products and service. Fair Trade Certification allows our customers to know more than just what products we provide; it shows them who we are and what we are working for. 

我们为再次取得这一成就感到自豪，不仅因为它体现了我们的核心价值，更因为它为我们本已卓越的产品和服务增添了价值。公平贸易认证让我们的客户了解的不仅仅是我们提供的产品，它向他们展示了我们是谁，以及我们正在为之努力。

4.  What is Arabica Coffee Roasters "Sustainable Series" of coffees? 什么是阿罗科的#可持续咖啡#系列？ 

Our Sustainable Coffee Series is our line of coffees which we strive to include as many aspects of our sustainable philosophy as possible, and by doing so, to "live our core values".  

可持续咖啡系列是我们的产品线之一，我们努力将可持续理念尽可能的包含在其中，并通过这样做来体现我们的核心价值。 

It also allows our coffee loving fans, who also happen to be concerned about the environment, to purchase a coffee which helps support their ideals, and through this one small action (one of hopefully many each day), make their lifestyles just a little bit more sustainable.  

这也让关心环境的咖啡爱好者们，能够购买到支持他们理想的咖啡，通过这一小小的举动（希望是每天诸多善举之一），让他们的生活方式变得更加可持续。

Fair Trade is one of five aspects of sustainability which we strive to include in our Sustainable Series coffees:

4. Sustainable Packaging: Eco-Friendly coffee bags - 可持续包装：使用环保包装袋
5. Sustainable Future: We donate a portion of the proceeds from our sustainable series coffees to Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots in China to support the education of children on the importance of being stewards of the environment - 可持续未来：我们将可持续系列咖啡的部分收益捐赠给珍古道尔博士在中国的根与芽项目，教育孩子关于环保的重要性； 

This fifth point is why we include Dr. Goodall's picture at the top and bottom of this section, and on some of our Sustainable Series coffee packaging.

As Dr. Jane likes to say: "Each one of us matters, has a role to play, and makes a difference."
