The good news is you are somewhere between the deep, messy middle and your Happy Ending!
It’s been said that fear of failure is the #1 reason most people fail. And once we’ve failed enough times, any challenge looks like a mountain we believe we can’t climb – it’s too high, it’s too big, and there’s no guarantee of a Happy Ending in sight!
Why bother….again? That is our first thought. And with having backed off from a number of challenges in the past, it can become a habit to turn around and walk in a different direction – never knowing and reaching the reward on the other side.
In this way then, we avoid indecision, possible public humiliation, and feeling bad for procrastinating. No one will ever even know we’ve walked away from that mountain, right? But….
But, we’ve heard that small steps, small seeds, small actions, and micro-habits can make a difference. And though results may be small at the start, there comes a point when the bowl tips, the mountain is now a little knoll you can walk over, decisions become easier because you are unveiling your clarity, you’re receiving kudos from friends who see some progress, and you’ve left procrastination in the dust. YES!
And that is how the story goes….every hero in those storybooks we read as kids kept at it until -
- the bridge was restored,
- the dragon was eliminated,
- the wicked witch was proclaimed dead,
- the treasure was found, or
- someone came along with a gold key.
So, just think of your inevitable trials and mess-ups as 3-D color scenes that you will be glad to creatively embellish when you share your life’s saga that brought you to success, fame, and fortune.
Failing is part of the process. And there are many experts all around us who encourage us to step back and learn to appreciate – even love – the process that gets us from Point A to Point B.
Yes, you may temporarily achieve a goal, but then it goes sour. Or you did not reach that goal at all, and seriously turned around to survey the ugly landscape behind you.
Now, of course, we are always working on various projects at once, so some projects may move along smoothly, no matter what the direction, while others run a more jagged course because of the number of elements involved, as fully displayed in the chart in your mind.
Here, I want to leave you with one last very important point. Your “tale” as it is reputably defined, is either “fiction” (Pfft! This is no fiction we’re living!), or “a true narrative story, which is imaginatively recounted.”
And here are actual working synonyms for your “tales”: narratives, reports, records, history, chronicles, transcripts, chronologies, or even memoir-worthy accounts.
So, the truth is that your ups and downs are more like a record of your experiments, and it has a beginning, a middle, and a Happy Ending! And you are the Hero protagonist.
Why not go create your avatar right now!
And don’t stop until you reach your Happy Ending!
