Failure is an Option
Material Testing – Critical to Fast Pace Development
Failure is Not an option…Its seems apt in lot of scenarios but guess not all.
Today when we are looking for material / technology to make things lighter, faster, quicker and yet reliable, we need to invest much more time and effort into material testing. This is where Failure will always be an Option. Each failure will teach us what’s not going to work. Each Failure will make us work hard and aim to convert it into a Success.
As more and more efforts are being made towards creating more Environment Friendly products, Material testing becomes critical. It needs to be at the forefront of most Product discussions. Every small element of the Sample Preparation needs to be looked into – be it material attributes, grain structures, new composite structures or the effect on environment.

Working with new material – hybrids / composites – has always posed new challenges. It has taken us into unknown territories. It has challenged our limits. Where do we start is always the question?
For most cased the answer is the Materials Lab. That’s where we aim to work on these new materials to see what they are can do. Starting from simply creating a clean sample to study the grain structure of the material, we advance to more challenging tasks of how this material will behave in different environments and scenarios.
Having worked closely with many companies across a range of industries, it is easier to summarize that the starting point remains more or less the same. The challenges vary from industry to industry. Knowledge Sharing, although key, is not always possible. Each development is guarded closely by NDA’s. Each Failure is equally recorded and treated as a success.
If you are in the Material Testing industry, I would like to know the kind of new challenges you face and how you are responding to them. How are you Ensuring Certainty in being able to replicate your work with a wide range of material.
It is all about knowledge sharing and failing and learning are important aspects of that journey. We at Struers will be happy to support you in failing and learning and take your preparation process to the next level. Reach out to Chinmoy Basu or others in our team for more insights
