Faff Free Friday #31 - The Stop Spinning Issue

Merry go rounds and Ferris wheels

This weekend, as I write, it is August Bank Holiday here in the UK, when many families head to attractions and seaside resorts to have some precious time together.

Will you be doing that too?

Maybe you will be tempted/persuaded onto a Merry Go Round - or its big brother the Waltzer - even a Ferris wheel....if you have a head for heights!

What they have in common is that when you dismount, you can be left a little wobbly with everything spinning around you as you get used to terra firma again.

It's all part of the thrill - and you know it only lasts a few minutes.

But what about in business?

  • Are you spinning from one service to another?
  • Is it leaving you dizzy, as though you're on a fun fair ride?
  • But with the problem that it isn't really fun - and the dizzy, sick feeling doesn't seem to end?

I see so many coaches and consultants, with so much to offer, yet getting frustrated because they are trying to keep too many balls in the air.

Frustrated by...

  • the books they plan to write but never publish
  • the card decks they create but never print (or print but never sell)
  • the courses they half finish but never share
  • the group programs?that serve so well but never launch

And probably all because there was too much to do and too many places to focus all at the same time.

If this is you, then you already get this:

Spinning from thing to thing, all you are left with is vertigo - and a stagnating income.

It makes me dizzy just thinking about it.

Coaches and consultants not getting things done they truly know will make a difference to their audience right now are left?feeling overwhelmed and even?a little bit guilty, and it isn't really their fault.?

Because yes, all these ARE?great things to offer (when eventually you get one off the ground).

But when you seem to be?constantly 'told' you 'should' do all these activities, by a conveyor belt of??'gurus', it can be just too much when life gets in the way and nothing gets finished.

Because you CAN Do Something, Doesn't Mean That You SHOULD

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Don't worry, you are not the only one - it truly isn't just you.

There is something you can do immediately when you start getting shiny objects syndrome about offering yet another thing in your business.

To take a step back and think.

Why is that important NOW - to you, to your client - to the world?

Or will it wait - if you are honest with yourself?

That was quite a revelation to me actually - to take time to think.

I was like a lot of us, always saying yes when local organisations asked for help - I would simply lean in with my extensive skills and experience.

Running 2 businesses, working for several others, caring for my elders and children, looking after a home and suffering chronic and painful conditions.

Still I said yes to EVERYTHING.

And offered EVERYTHING in the businesses. Nothing was too much trouble.

I have A LOT to offer, but it just is not possible -?not all at the same time in a one person business. Not without losing part of yourself.

My FB Feed Is Being Taken Over

It can be just as hard to say NO to all the 'gurus' offering quick fixes (do you buy the thing even if you don't really need fixing?).

It is easy to feel that you are missing out something in your marketing when it is constantly in your social feeds, and personalised targeting?ads.

All because you once Googled 'how to sell more in my business' or similar.

I had 21 ads in my FB feed last Sunday night in a five minute scroll (with almost every other post being an ad annoyingly).

Out of 21, 20 of them were for gurus offering mostly '6 or 7 figure' scaling systems and one being an 8 figure program - how very dull!

Every one had a subtext suggesting how rubbish I must feel NOT having THEIR THING in my business. NOT doing what I SHOULD be doing.

I did feel rubbish for a split second - left me feeling empty.

Then I shook it off.

Because I know it isn't real. It is the algorithm at large.

I talk all the time in content about coaching - so my ads serve more and more 'coaching' offers up for me.

But even knowing that, how easy it was to be left spinning?

What about number 21?

Whilst 20 ads were coaching related - the 21st certainly was not!

That was for a stick-on bra which can hold a watermelon - I am saying nothing more on that...apart from I was NOT searching out that contraption!

What do I do differently?

From experiential learning, my approach is quite different - if you worked with me you'd find there are:

  • NO rules
  • NO shoulds
  • NO have to's or need to do's.

Instead, my coaching and mentoring packages are based ON you and FOR you.

We work on what works for you, your expertise, brings you joy AND money - and helps the people you want to help...and how to reach them so they can buy your thing.

That is why my clients go from

  • too much stuff to offer?in their business
  • too little income
  • too much frustration and lacking precious family time (so they can go jump on those fairground rides)

Instead they are

  • in control
  • feeling supported
  • totally eradicating frustration and guilt

And making more money more easily than they could imagine before working with me.

The Future is Just Around the Corner

  2. Work deeper with those SOLELY READY to work on themselves as leaders in their business, communities and industries to break through the mindset that business and marketing HAVE to be difficult.
  3. Highlight that ethical business CAN AND MUST be profitable to support and help create a better future for everyone.
