Today, November 24th, we celebrate the National Day of Scientific Culture, a date that aims to highlight science and awaken everyone's interest regarding the activities and scientific achievements developed in our country. "As good as creating knowledge is sowing this taste among the youngest," said Paula Castro , director of Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Faculty of Biotechnology).
In an anticipation of this date, the Faculty of Biotechnology and the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry opened their laboratories to 11th and 12th-grade students under the theme "Let's talk to scientists?". The goal was to make known the research developed by young researchers in the Associated Laboratory, but above all, to show the people beyond the scientist: their paths, what moves them, and even what they do in their free time. In addition to some lectures, high school students had the opportunity to clarify all their doubts with the invited researchers in an informal and relaxed environment, also participating in a visit to their workplaces.
The feedback from students and researchers was very positive, with the former mentioning how interesting it was to know the journey of each scientist and understand that the "path does not have to be a straight line." Researchers highlighted the active curiosity and very interesting and relevant questions from the visiting students.
In her speech, Manuela Pintado , director of the CBQF - Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry , emphasized the importance of celebrating science with everyone, reinforcing the value of teamwork in research. Paula Castro , director of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa (School of Biotechnology), emphasized that "we live research daily, and it is when we share it that the celebration happens: as good as creating knowledge is sowing this taste among the youngest."
