Facility Siting Study

Do you have major hazards at your worksite that may result in a catastrophic process safety incident? If so, it is time to conduct a Facility Siting Study!

In a Facility Siting Study, major hazards such as Vapor Cloud Explosions (VCEs), Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions (BLEVEs), toxic gas releases, and process plant fires are modelled, and the proximity of occupied buildings to these major hazards is assessed.? The objective is to eliminate or mitigate potential impact to personnel in the event that a catastrophic process safety incident occurs.? Opportunities are identified to further reduce risk.

Nebula Safety and Environmental is experienced in performing Facility Siting Studies. We provide detailed and accurate analyses, yet easy-to-understand results plotting for all major hazards.? Furthermore, we provide tools to help the worksite improve management of these hazards.? These tools include maps that show where permanent buildings, temporary buildings, and tents can be sited and where they shouldn’t be sited without further analysis, per American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practices.? We can also assess the potential for windows to shatter during a VCE and estimate risk levels for any scenarios of concern.? The result is a thorough yet cost-effective and fit-for-purpose analysis that helps facilities improve Safety at the worksite.

If you already have a Facility Siting study, it may be time to revalidate it. A revalidation of the Facility Siting Study is recommended at least every 5 years. If capital projects have been installed or there are significant changes that may impact Facility Siting results, the study should be updated.

Please contact Nebula Safety and Environmental for assistance with Facility Siting Studies and/or Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA). We would be excited to partner with you for facility siting study support in 2024.
