Faces of Ambar: Inna Kuhlmann

Unlike Michael Scott from ‘The Office’, who hated his HR rep Toby, we love everyone in our team and are excited to introduce you to the members of our Ambar family. Today, meet Inna Kuhlmann, a multilingual HR Business Partner who began her journey in Germany, gained more experience in the UK, and now works with us in Spain. Read the interview to learn more about her fascinating journey!

Let's start with the basics: tell us about your first job. Why did you choose it?

I started my career in HR kind of by accident during my English and Romance studies at the university in Germany. I found a job at the reception desk, and supporting the HR department was part of it. That was the time when I realised how interesting and attractive this is for me. That job essentially encouraged me to pursue a career in this field.

After graduating from the university, I moved to London, since my husband found a job there. Finding an HR job in London without any prior experience in the UK was quite challenging, but I managed to continue my profession in a completely new place. For some time, I worked as an HR Assistant and later as a Recruitment Advisor. Then, I took a break for maternity leave and returned to my work in HR.

Interpersonal relationships have always fascinated me. Human resources is truly a multifaceted field. One needs to talk to people, find business solutions, and make teams stronger. I love it! The main problem I faced was that the HR industry in London is a bit different. If you don't have a proper qualification, you will find it difficult to progress in your HR career. That's why I completed my CIPD qualification in 2019.

What has led you to Spain and, most importantly, to Ambar?

After spending 7 years in London, my family and I decided that we wanted a better work-life balance and a lifestyle more suitable for our child. That's why we decided to move to Spain. I had some doubts about finding a job there, but luckily, I found Ambar, and they were looking for a trilingual Spanish, English, and Russian-speaking HR Generalist. At that time, my Spanish was not as good as expected for the job, but our HR director at Ambar gave me a chance to start.

And how has your working life changed once you became a part of our team?

So, I have been working at Ambar since February 2021, starting in the HR Generalist role.

In March 2022, we decided to establish a separation of duties after another colleague joined us. I began working with the Data Analytics Department and a year later became their HR Business Partner. This was a significant accomplishment in my career.

In addition to working with the Data Analytics team, I also participate in various HR projects. For example, last year I helped to compile a benefits policy and introduced the Learning Management System to our office.

I enjoy working at Ambar because the company truly provides opportunities for growth, development, and achieving career aspirations. For instance, before joining Ambar, I didn't have experience in handling Spanish payroll. At the beginning of the year, the company supported me in taking a course on social security contributions and payroll in Spain, which I completed and found very useful. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge from it.

The team I work with is quite small, so I use a personal touch approach. I know each member well, including their concerns or doubts.

I believe my role is more than just HR. It's about listening to employees and the team on a personal level, as well as understanding business needs. The purpose of an HRBP is to bridge the gap between the team and the business. By applying HR processes and tools, I can influence the business goals that the team aims to achieve.
