Facebook Video vs. YouTube: where should you build your brand's video audience?

Facebook Video vs. YouTube: where should you build your brand's video audience?

Ever since Facebook upped its game on video last March, people have been debating whether or not it will be game over for YouTube. With the deep engagement built-in, Facebook was reporting 4 billion, then 8 billion video views per day on the platform, which led to a lot of speculation that YouTube's days are numbered.

As I decided to start rebuilding my brand with video in November, I, too, wondered what platform would be best for my channel. YouTube is where all of the amateur creators choose to build their audiences, but I was hearing mixed reviews for newcomers.

So I decided that, instead of just picking one or the other right off the bat, I would do a little experiment: I would upload the same video to both platforms to see how well each performed. Sure, my audience for video is still pretty small in comparison, but it would be almost perfect to show how well someone could grow something fairly organically (as I have an audience outside of video) on both platforms.

And the results? Well, I made a video about that where I show the results of the experiment, assess the advantages and disadvantages of both platforms, and, finally, give you my verdict on where you should spend your energy (following my own lead). As usual, I've had some fun with editing (something video is great for is edutainment), so I hope you have fun with the message:

I enjoy watching your videos Tara. You are a wealth of information. I have to say though that there are too many cutaways in this video which means they dilute the information by being a litle distracting. Just saying...

Nice way to be political correct. Till the end we thought that you would help people the right way to post the vids, but its a disappointment in the end.. U shud have told people the people 1 platform as your video's Tag line promises. Nonsense

Why not tell us in a few sentences what your results are. I don't understand why we need to watch a video, when we can read faster than we can watch someone else talk. When is society going to understand we want information fast and straight to the point. Reading stories, movies, speeches, and music are things that people want to be long in duration.
