A Facebook Statistic That May Shock You

A Facebook Statistic That May Shock You

Do you think Facebook is just for “old” people? Do you think no self-respecting teenager or 20-something would touch Facebook with a 10-foot selfie stick?

Yes, these notions abound, and they’re backed by random experiences. Maybe your 16-year-old daughter shuns Facebook. Maybe the 19-year-old step-nephew of your second cousin thrice removed doesn’t like it, either. But their individual opinions shouldn’t affect your Facebook marketing decisions. You deserve more reliable data.

So, check out the Pew Research Center! They regularly publish statistics on U.S. social media usage.

Now here’s the shocker:

LOTS of young people are on Facebook!

51% of 13- to 17-year-olds say they use it.

79% of 18- to 29-year-olds say they use it, too.

That’s right. Facebook isn’t just for geriatric fuddy-duddies. Teens and 20-somethings—if they’re in your target market—may appreciate your posts on Facebook.

In all fairness, fewer teenagers use Facebook now than five years ago. And sites like Instagram, Snapchat, and Tik Tok tend to stimulate them more. But these young people have a decent enough showing on Facebook to get your attention.

Check out these 2019 social media statistics by the Pew Research Center.

No matter your personal experience, trust the numbers. You’ll be on your way to building a social media program that speaks to everyone who deserves to hear your message.

Happy posting!
