Apple may be nearing the sale of its billionth iPhone but reported that sales of its flagship product slumped 27%. It’s the second straight quarter revenue has fallen for the tech giant following a 13-year golden period of growth. Nevertheless, Apple shares were up 5% in after-hours trading.
Things aren’t looking up for Twitter, with its MAU up just 3% from a year ago after a mostly-stalled user base. Twitter has been making a big push to beef up its offerings, most recently signing a number of live streaming deals around sports events, and just yesterday making another attempt to explain what exactly Twitter is. Looks like the trend continues. Investors pummeled shares in extended trading.
Facebook has pledged to build 1,500 units of housing for the general public as a way to alleviate crowding it bears some responsibility for as it plans to expand headquarters and add 6,500 new employees. 15% of the units will be reserved for low- or middle-income families. While the plan may be in good faith, issues remain: “Facebook’s plans for housing would help some, but it would take years to be built, and meanwhile the jobs-housing imbalance is only slated to grow.”
Under Armour is building “the single greatest retail store in the world” in one of the most coveted spaces on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, also formerly home to FAO Schwarz. It’s a move to help raise their brand identity against competitors like Nike (whose CEO’s pay nearly tripled to $47.6 million for fiscal year 2016 in case you were wondering), Bloomberg reports. This isn’t the only play Under Armour is undertaking: It plans to partner with Kohl’s to reach more easily suburban, middle-class consumers.
Verizon takes on tech giants: Turns out Verizon’s $4.83 billion deal to acquire Yahoo is part of a plan to “become a meaningful player in the digital media industry” by taking on companies like Facebook and Google head-on through content and advertising, The Wall Street Journal reports. Verizon’s investors aren’t as optimistic: Shares closed down 1.88%.

What Big Short? Single-family home purchases were the strongest they’ve been in more than eight years during the month of June, indicating “steady gains fueled by stable employment and low borrowing costs.” The jump was led by a 10.9% increase in demand in the West, while sales jumped 10.4% in the Midwest, Bloomberg reports.
The Tesla Model S involved in the first known fatality operating on autopilot was speeding. The vehicle was travelling 74 MPH in a 65 MPH zone when it hit a truck broadside, killing the driver. Investigators have not yet concluded the cause of the accident, and Tesla had no comment.

8 年Shades of the "company store and company Houseing" from the late 1800s through the 1950s. You worked for " the company", you lived in "the company" housing, you bought your food and sundrys from "the company" store. And the potential problems???

8 年It is stupid for verizon to think of any advantages from yahoo and against google. Verizon is only usa based company limited by license. While yahoo was and google is an international brand. Economies of scale play. Other stupid thing they did is that content never can go in marriage with a communication service. A communication service is limited by license and to certain kind of end devices. While content has to go through all communication providers and on all devices and platforms. Its best when content producer and communication/distribution companies stay separate.
