Facebook Ads vs LinkedIn Ads: Which ones work better for Coaches in 2024?

Facebook Ads vs LinkedIn Ads: Which ones work better for Coaches in 2024?

  • Are you tired of spending thousands of dollars every month on Facebook and Instagram ads with little to no ROI?
  • Are you cringing looking at the type of unqualified leads that these ads generate that are making it harder and harder to sell your products or programs??
  • Are you hopeless that you’ll ever find an agency that can make these ads work as they used to??

If this is you, you’re not alone!?

In my experience, Facebook/ Instagram ads are not the answer to generating more leads for your business in 2024 if you’re a coach or coaching academy!?

If you’re done wasting your money on platforms that don't deliver the results your biz needs to scale, keep reading.?

Introducing….

(drum roll, please)

?? ?? ??

?

Yes, you read that correctly, and before you roll your eyes, thinking these are only for big corporations, let me prove it to you.?

Today, I’m hosting a fight.?

In one corner, we have , and in the other, we have Facebook/Instagram Ads. It's time to put them to the test and see which one comes out on top!

In the red corner: The Challenger?

(LinkedIn Ads) ??

In the blue corner: The Defender?

(Facebook/Instagram Ads)

Let the fight begin.

Round 1:?Engagement

Facebook and Instagram are where many people go to “lose time”, disconnect after a long day, or check what their friends had for dinner or where they went on vacation. They tend to engage more in groups and chats with their friends than with ads.?

On Linkedin the mindset is different. Most people are actively looking to connect with like-minded people and inspiring leaders, learn new skills, or seek new business or career opportunities leading to higher engagement rates.

Winner: LinkedIn

Round 2: Targeting

Facebook’s targeting has become increasingly looser, especially after multiple lawsuits in which they were accused of improper user data sharing. As of spring 2022, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) has limited the interests categories that you can target making it extremely hard to reach your ideal client with accuracy.

LinkedIn has proprietary data (that users willingly share with the company) that no other social media platform out there has. For example, you can target people with a specific job title, that has x years of experience, and that work for a large company in a specific industry with 100% accuracy. Crazy, huh??

You can also layer interests on top of that, which means that you can get very intentional with the audiences you target with your ads.?

Winner: By far, LinkedIn ads.

Round 3: Competing for attention

On Facebook and Instagram, your ads are competing for people’s attention with all the service businesses AND e-commerce stores that run ads to the same audience. On top of that, on Instagram, you’re also competing with all the influencers, the dancers, the fashionistas, and the food or travel vloggers.

You won’t find many B2C e-commerce brands advertising or building rapport with their audience?

on LinkedIn, which essentially means there are fewer brands competing for users’ attention. This also means that your ads will not be impacted by the big ecomm events, and ad costs are more stable throughout the year.

Winner: You guessed it…It’s LinkedIn again.

Round 4: Cost

LinkedIn is famous for being very expensive - but is it true??

In my experience, having spent $250,000+ in media budgets on LinkedIn, the cost-per-lead in the coaching industry are similar to or slightly under the cost-per-lead on Facebook/Instagram (with the right strategies, of course), BUT the quality of the leads is much higher, because of the precise targeting.

Coaching is one of the hardest services to advertise on Facebook/Instagram. On top of that, seasonality and certain e-commerce events (like Black Friday and holidays like Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter/Mother’s Day, etc) raise the cost of ads significantly.?

One of my clients (a global coaching company) ran Facebook ads and LinkedIn ads in parallel for a while. The ROI on the Facebook ads was 2x while the ROI on the LinkedIn ads was 4x. Ultimately, this client has stopped running Facebook ads.

Winner: This is a close one, but again, LinkedIn gives you the best bang for your buck.

Round 5: Customer Support

I have yet to meet a Facebook advertiser or ad manager who has not had their Facebook ad account put on hold or even disabled.

And what a hassle it is to get it back (if you ever get it approved again)!?

It can take days or weeks of endless chats with Meta’s support team and hours spent on providing documents to verify the account. If you’ve made the mistake to rely mostly on Facebook/Insta to generate leads, you’re in big trouble as your biz might be weeks without leads.?

LinkedIn’s support (in my experience) is much quicker and more prompt in solving tickets. I have never had issues with ad accounts being disabled or banned; the worst that happened was to lose personal access to my LinkedIn account which was solved in less than 24h. What a relief!

Winner: It’s LinkedIn again ??

After 5 rounds of fighting, Facebook/Instagram is knocked down, and the referee is counting.?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.?

This match has a clear winner ─ LinkedIn ads.

Surprised? Let me know in the comments section below.?

Big love,

Cristina

From my point of view, I don't think we can even come closer to comparing LinkedIn to Facebook/Instagram, saying this is almost like weighing up bananas and apples together which are totally different, excuse me for my poor level of vulgarization here... I'll explain: I personally think LinkedIn is a level above Instagram and Facebook in terms of coaching, learning, and a similar programmatic mindset with people. I believe the output of the results must have something to do with the environment; Let's say you want to run an ads campaign over a specific product, for example, kids' clothes. (I would personally not run ads on LinkedIn for this but instead probably on Instagram or Facebook) On the other side, If I want to run an ads campaign for a Computer Science class, I might get more organic views and visibility from a tech side of things public using LinkedIn ads... In the end, it really depends on your audience and your scenario/surrounding. However, Facebook/Instagram might be more well suited for a non-tech background user, while on the contrary, LinkedIn in my opinion is much more convenient for the high-tech/engineering end-user.
