Facebook Ads tip for 2024 to discuss

Publishers working with Facebook know better than anyone about the difficulties with launching advertising. Contacting Facebook support often does not produce practical results. There is only one way out: look for experienced colleagues. Recently, on a specialized forum, we came across advice that we want to discuss with you.

So, user Waqas_Khan1 posted the following text on Reddit:

“My #1 Facebook Ads tip for 2024:
Don't check your Ad accounts too often. Constant changes don't give the algorithm enough time to optimize based on data. It needs a bigger sample size first.
Instead, set up campaigns thoughtfully upfront with clear targeting and budgets. Let them run minimum 3 days before major changes. Minor daily tweaks are okay.
The key is patience. Give Facebook time to optimize and find your ideal customers. If you change things too fast, the algorithm has to re-optimize often. Stay patient and performance will improve”.

Commentators' opinions were divided:

CorgiDad33:

It's hard but I've got to where I won't make manual or automated changes without 7 days of prior data. You're 100% right. Constant tinkering only makes things worse 99% of the time.

galaxys6edge2:

You're right, and that's human nature. There's a chance you're losing money right now, won't you go and check it? Imagine your balance in your bank can be changed any moment, won't you check it at least 4 times a day?

Nothing we can do about human nature beside hire someone to check it for us, and this someone needs to be a 3rd party who does NOT lose his own money when the campaign spends.

And that's the #1 reasons people need to hire a media buyer (it's more important than the media buying itself or the creatives - you simply need to chill a bit as a business owner).

digitaladguide:

I agree with the overall sentiment of this post, but I do not agree that minor daily tweaks are ok.

Waqas_Khan1:

Totally hear you! Patience is key, but catching big mistakes fast (wrong audience, bad ads) saves days. After that, let Facebook learn. Mini tweaks after 24 hours to fix minor bumps, but major changes wait 3+ days. We all want happy customers, right?

rainbowclay8765:

When adjusting your Facebook ad budget, make small changes, ideally between $5 to $10. Larger adjustments can disrupt the algorithm, causing a learning period of 48 to 72 hours and potentially impacting ad performance. Gradual changes help maintain stable and effective campaign delivery.

Waqas_Khan1:

Great question! Budget tweaks under 20% are usually fine. Bigger changes like targeting shifts wait for 3+ days

Same goes for scaling don't aggressively increase the budget just increase 10% daily. But for that you have to check multiple metrics where the budget is spending.

ROCKNROLLER9:

This is BS, today I increased my budget around 2.5% and fb is calling it a significant edit and also my ad stopped giving me the same results. What do you suggest?

Waqas_Khan1:

Gotcha! While 2.5% seems small. Give Facebook 48 hours to adjust, then track performance closely. Data is your friend, not panic! If things still dip, try reverting or smaller tweaks. Patience wins!

hohstaplerlv:

What should I do if I start a broad campaign with approximately 2mil people, but Facebook is giving me $50 for CPM?

Waqas_Khan1:

Hold on there! Before we diagnose, let's get some vitals. What's your current click-through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC)? Knowing those numbers will help pinpoint the culprit behind your high CPM.

hohstaplerlv:

CPM $43 CTR 1.08 CPC $4.06 Total spent $60 Reach 1,100 Zero Leads. I know it’s a small reach to get leads, and it’s probably early since it’s still in learning, but with this rate my ad will never get out of learning anyway. I’m running one ad currently so CBO (I think that’s a correct name) and planning to create a new campaign tomorrow and at two more videos with different copy and test it that way. Any advice??

Waqas_Khan1:

While you're right that it's early to judge, based on the current data, your ad creative (video in this case) might not be resonating with the target audience. Try different creative (test videos & messaging) and refine targeting (segment your audience & analyze insights). Give it a few days, optimize for conversions, and you'll see those leads roll in!

Hope this helps! ??

hohstaplerlv:

I’m basically targeting all of the people in my city (Las Vegas) from 30-65+ age and putting no interest to keep it as broad as I can. My opinion is that Meta doesn’t know who to target because it doesn’t have a lot of information due to my page being new and whole business/ad account being new… But if I put, let’s say, people with Pets as a target group same thing happens… While I’m running similar ads for another company doing exactly the same thing but with 8k followers and $50k in ad spend per year and there I’m getting $10 per lead with around $10 CPM Their ads aren’t any better and copy is similar… That brings me to my point and that is that Meta already know what kind of people to target for their ads due to maturity of the account and page, while in my new account it’s kind of testing from each group until it figures it out, while I cannot find a proper way to guide the algorithm… But yeah, I’ll try with different creative tomorrow. While I dont mind testing, I do mind wasting money :)

Waqas_Khan1:

There's more you can do to guide the algorithm and avoid wasting money:

  1. Don't rely solely on broad demographic targeting:

While city and age range give the algorithm a starting point, they're too broad for effective targeting.

Analyze how different demographic segments (income, education, marital status) perform within your Las Vegas audience.

Go beyond general interests like "pets" and target niches like "dog owners" or "horseback riding enthusiasts" based on your product/service.

Optimization takes time, especially with new accounts. Give your campaigns at least 7 days before making major changes.

A/B test different creatives, targeting options, and landing pages to identify the best performing combination.

Facebook advertising requires a combination of audience insights, strategic targeting, compelling creatives, and patience for optimization.

Don't get discouraged by initial challenges, keep testing, analyzing, and refining your approach, and you'll find the winning formula for your new business.

It's all about Testing Testing Testing Until you get the right results.
