If that chick only knew what he was getting into… Frank Perdue “The Chicken man” CEO and TV star
Frank Perdue was not the first with that moniker. "The Chicken Man," also known as the Julius Caesar of the Philadelphia Mob, was blown up on his doorstep in 1981. Bruce Springsteen made this death more famous by including it in his song “Atlantic City.” The other man who confined his murderous activity to chickens was more famous.
Frank Perdue was one of the first CEOs to appear in TV commercials, starring in over 200 beginning in the early 1970s. Perdue became the face, voice and name of the chicken industry, pioneering the idea of branding for a previously generic product like chicken. His TV appearances created astonishing name recognition for his company, Perdue Farms, and allowed them to dominate the industry while starting a new trend of CEOs in the eighties hawking their own products.

The Trend Continues
From the 1990s through today, inventor James Dyson revolutionized the vacuum cleaner industry before creating a wide range of other household gadgets. He brought a tone of sophistication and expertise to his company’s ads, helping justify his products’ higher price points in categories crowded with legacy brands. He also looked cool with a muscular body, jeans and T-shirt.
Michael Dubin, CEO of Dollar Shave Club, is another example of an iconic leader and spokesperson, one whose mainstream appeal likely stems from the fact he began as a content creator before becoming a successful entrepreneur. For the last decade Papa John was hawking pizzas with his war cry “better ingredients better pizza” on every NFL broadcast up to 2018. Being on TV can rocket you to fame even if it’s only to star in ads. That’s just as true today for ads that run on YouTube or Facebook. Creativity and repetition can quickly build a brand!
