The Fourth Industrial Revolution, climate change, hyper-connectivity, and subsequent culture and political shifts, the tempo of these changes is increasing like the beats at a midnight Rave.
The military has coined a term for this new environment… VUCA .
VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. Originating at the US Army War College, this concept describes the dynamic of a post-cold war environment filled with disruption, emerging technology, and rapid change.
With this VUCA environment becoming norm…how is one to navigate this chaotic landscape?
Let me advocate an intentional, and unconventional way of facing this… unknown world… May I suggest the perspective of a Freedom Fighter.
With this VUCA environment becoming the norm…how is one to navigate this chaotic landscape?
Specifically…what admirable qualities can we distill from Freedom Fighters’ persistent world of disruption and uncertainty.
This reference is not to praise violence, fighting, and warfare but to understand those forces that have nudged the military into adjusting their strategies .
History has many examples of a disruptive team of Freedom Fighters, some notable include the Sons of Liberty of The American Revolution, Maquis of the French Nazi Resistance, MKs of the African National Congress … and many others .
In the Broadway musical “Hamilton” the qualities of Freedom Fighters are most simply described in the song Stay Alive:
The 3 qualities are: ? They Outrun ? They Outlast ? They Hit ‘em quick -get out fast
More to come...in future posts we will explore applying these qualities.
