Face Aging App is dangerous for your Privacy?

FaceApp of aging filter goes viral but now there is warning against its use and call for FBI investigation

After the bottle cap challenge recently all celebrities including hollywood and bollywood come together for #faceappchallenge. this is a app that allows through an age filter to show users how they will look after 40 years is all rage right now. Millions of people, including celebrities who are actually dying hair colors and hiding real age are sharing photos using age filters on social media.

In this digital marketing era, common problem of these apps are they uses personal data such as a photo, facebook gives a option for privacy concerns but most of the facebook users are unaware about these privacy settings and data can be misused. Many people have raised concerns, including a US senator who wants the app investigated by FBI for possible data misuse. Here is everything you need to know about the FaceApp controversy and trend.

Most of the people are not aware about the mobile app development companies and they download copy apps which developed for data collection purpose.

Privacy International, an organisation that looks at apps and websites for privacy risks and violations, says that like app apps that use photos of users, FaceApp too can misuse its user data. "In applying filters to peoples photos, FaceApp will create a detailed biometric map of their faces--which can be as unique to them as their fingerprint or DNA," it says.

-- Another privacy risk is that the users photos can be utilised by apps like FaceApp to teach its smart algorithms how people's faces change with age and then develop solutions that use face recognition for surveillance and user monitoring.

It is important to know that these FaceApp was in news for wrong reasons. Two years ago the company created an ethnicity filter that allowed people to change their photos to look like person from some other country or race. FaceApp apologised and removed the filter after controversy.
