What's Inside:
You already know LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for elevating your practice and amplifying your brand as a financial advisor but what are the specific ways that you can take your LinkedIn presence to the next level in 2025? Let's dive in.
Set Yourself Up for Success: Understand Your Audience
First and foremost, ask yourself: Is my target audience actually ON LinkedIn? Do some research, and if the answer is no, spend those efforts where your audience is.
If they are, here are things to consider as you plan your LinkedIn approach:
Once you’re clear on your content goals and confident in your approach, it’s time to make sure your LinkedIn profile is just as sharp as your plan.
Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile
This is your first impression, so you want to make this memorable and accurate.
Define what you do, who you serve, and how you help. Use straightforward language and keywords related to financial advising and your specific niche. LinkedIn’s search algorithm favors profiles that align with common search terms, so aim to rank highly for terms potential clients might be searching for.
Be concise and clear. No jargon, no fluff! People scroll quickly, so you need to have clarity in your bio, headline, all of it. Remember, your ideal client might not know the financial verbiage that you do, so your profile needs to be digestible to them.
Side note: If your firm doesn’t already have a LinkedIn company page, create one! Many potential clients will click through to learn more about your firm, which can reinforce your brand and build trust.
The next step is to brainstorm how you will execute your content strategy in a way that's impactful, and tailored to YOU and your goals.
Write Content That Resonates
LinkedIn’s algorithm favors engagement that it deems authentic and meaningful. The content you post should resonate with your audience and make you memorable.
Here’s how to craft content that connects:
1?? Be original.
Don’t feel the need to follow the formulaic posts you see. There is a sea of sameness on LinkedIn, so if you want to stand out, be authentically YOU. Write how you might talk to a client.
AGC? Member, Joe Marshall , shares: “Don’t just educate. No one wants to read an encyclopedia on the intricacies of ISOs. Be entertaining—share client successes, stories, and mistakes you’ve learned from.”
Adding a personal touch, like sharing relatable stories, makes you more memorable.
2?? Experiment with different content types.
3?? Avoid spamming.
LinkedIn suppresses content that they consider “Spammy”, which includes the following:
? Emoji or reaction polls meant to artificially boost engagement
? Posts misrepresenting LinkedIn platform functionality meant to artificially increase engagement
? Chain letter-type content that requests likes, reactions, and shares
? Excessive, irrelevant, or repetitive comments or messages
4?? Repurpose content.
Big time-saver here! Simplify your posting process by reusing material from other platforms or long-form content you’ve already created.
? AGC? Member, Joe Marshall takes this approach: “I write my content for the week on Monday morning. If I wrote a newsletter that previous Saturday, I use components of that for posts.”
Repurposing content allows you to stay consistent without starting from scratch.
5?? Keeping content in LinkedIn.
To increase reach, it’s crucial to think about how LinkedIn’s algorithm views content that either keeps people on the platform or directs them elsewhere.
? “If you want to link out to anything, drop it in the comments and be sure to mention that in your post,” shares AGC? Chief Evangelist Diana Cabrices . “Links that lead people outside of LinkedIn will mean the algorithm won't work in your favor, so putting it in the comments is a workaround.”
? Similarly, AGC? co-founder Justin Castelli, CFP? suggests “when possible, embed video directly on LinkedIn instead of linking out for better reach" and summarize long blog articles and videos in your posts, and link to the resource in the comments.
LinkedIn is as much about connection as it is about content, so now let's talk about how to build and nurture a network.
Connections and Reach: Build a Network That Matters
Once you’ve established a realistic content plan, it’s time to expand your reach and grow your network:
?? Be engaged, just as much as you want engagement.
? When someone comments on your posts, make it a priority to respond thoughtfully. This back-and-forth strengthens relationships, builds trust, and increases the likelihood of future engagement.
? Tag people in your posts who are likely to respond. For example, if you’re resharing an industry article, tag a quoted contributor and add to the conversation. This can boost your reach and spark conversation.
? Consider setting up a “like and repost” routine with colleagues or other advisors to give your posts an early engagement boost, which can help the LinkedIn algorithm push your content further.
?? Personalize your connection requests (and tools to help!)
A quick, personal note in each request can go a long way. Let people know who you are and why it would be valuable to connect. Adding new contacts weekly can strengthen your LinkedIn presence over time, especially if you use tools to streamline the process.
? AGC? Chief Evangelist, Diana Cabrices suggests, “Spend time each week adding new contacts (or use a tool that does it for you, ie?Hummingbird.ga) and turn on your ‘content creator’ mode so it's easier than ever for prospects to follow you.”
? Using tools like LinkedIn’s voice text feature, as AGC? member Todd Bryant, CFP? recommended, is a unique way to connect with people on a personal level.
"Particularly on their birthdays, I would send voice texts via LinkedIn which got a ton of positive responses. You get spammed by messages all the time and certainly you get a lot on your birthday, but rarely would you ever get a voice text, " he shares, noting that it became a powerful differentiator that resonated deeply with recipients.
? Todd Bryant, CFP? also found success with AI tools like CoPilot AI to help grow connections, bringing in up to three or four new meetings per week. He noted this will be especially impactful for those newer to the business as they ramping up their LinkedIn presence.
?? Utilize Sales Navigator for targeted outreach.
For those serious about growing their reach, Sales Navigator is worth exploring.
? AGC? Member, Joe Marshall uses it to great effect: “Each Monday, I send out connection requests to 150 people based on my Sales Navigator lists. It adds 30-40 connections a week.”
With the right filters, Sales Navigator allows you to connect with exactly the kind of people you want in your network.
?? Boost posts for reach.
Boosted posts allow you to get your message in front of a larger audience, targeting users who might not yet be connected with you. Consider using boosted posts when you have stellar content you think deserves promotion, but no need to break the bank here.
With each connection and interaction, you’re reinforcing your credibility. Now, it’s all about keeping the momentum and delivering value that keeps your audience coming back.
Making LinkedIn Work for You
Ultimately, clients and connections want to see you on LinkedIn. Share your unique insights, voice, and perspective. When you’re authentic, your content will resonate better, and your LinkedIn presence will reflect the brand you’re building. Good luck!
