Fa?ade lighting adds aura and identity not only to this building but also to the cityscape and skyline in Paramaribo
A building’s fa?ade is an expressive feature. Perhaps the only visible design element to the non-inhabitants is the fa?ade. Apart from emphasizing artistic expression, fa?ade lighting should also contribute to the branding and marketing for the investors, landmarking for the city, and imparting a “local essence” to the structure. It also attracts tourists, employees, and customers as may be the purpose of the structure.
In the heart of Paramaribo lies one of the most fascinating and sacred buildings and is also South America's largest wooden structure - the Cathedral Basilica Saint Peter and Paul. It is the seat of the Catholic Diocese and holds centuries of history. A unique work of architecture, the Cathedral is Suriname's most historic monument.
In 2018, this historic building implemented facade lighting to showcase the structural beauty, giving this monument the attention it deserves during the day and night.
Recently another iconic building, Hakrinbank, in Paramaribo implemented facade lighting that is worth mentioning. The creatively illuminated building became a landmark and markets itself without any extra effort, making a memorable impression as it gleams far and wide in the darkness of the night.
The details of the building, where the architect and structural engineers have put up a lot of effort to make it a benchmark, are highlighted as one of the most prominent elements of the structure, and the lighting complements its exterior. Vision is the most important key sense through which we relish architecture, and lighting enhances the way we perceive architecture even more.
