EYE+ is not a machine vision system…

Despite its sleek dark exterior & use of a high resolution camera, the EYE+ is not a machine vision system as we know, or is it?

This can be difficult to explain. Firstly, What is a machine vision system?

Camera? Algorithms? Software? Robotic Guidance? Part Inspection? Quality Gauging? or just identifying parts?

?And everything I've ever learnt about machine vision would suggest that Industrial camera + lens + lighting + algorithms = a machine vision system.

However, If we can adjust our mindset a little when it comes to EYE+.

Lets go back to the initial concept. We listened to our customers, we listened to the pains they had when it came to setting up robotic guidance, hand eye calibration & handling different vibration parameters on the asycube when using a 'typical' machine vision system.

The result… EYE+ which is a control system for the asycube.

Output the pickpoint coordinates of a pickable part as quickly as possible. Activate the hopper if more parts are needed in the asycube.

Control the motion of the asycube, vibrate in a specific way depending on the location of the parts and prepare parts to pick as quickly as possible.

The PLC only has to send 'get_part' and the EYE+ will manage everything else.

My goal writing this isn't to re define what machine vision means, but simply share with the reader that some vision systems can do everything, and this has become the standard expectation from users.

These are the visions systems you reach for when you perform inspection, gauging or want a blank canvass with many tools and filters at your fingertips.

There are many on the market & they are excellent.

EYE+ uses the components of a vision system with a very specific task. Manage the flexible feeding process so a user with no previous machine vision experience can quickly setup and successfully pick parts from the Asycube.
