Eye injuries; First aid steps to take
Eye injuries are common. Causes could range from accidents, chemical exposure, foreign objects to sports related injuries among others. ??
Here’s what to do:
Rinse the eye with clean water: If there is any loose objects in the eye, you can flush them out by gently rinsing the eye with clean water. Tilt the head to the side of the affected eye and use a clean, sterile eyewash or tap water to flush the eye for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
Do not try to remove any object stuck in the eye: If there is an object, such as a piece of metal or glass, stuck in the eye, do not try to remove it yourself. Leave it in place and seek immediate medical attention.
Cover the injured eye: To protect the injured eye from further harm, you can place a sterile gauze or clean cloth over the eye and secure it lightly with a bandage or tape. Avoid putting pressure on the eye.
Avoid touching or rubbing the eye: This can worsen the injury and cause further damage. Keep hands away from the eye and try to minimize blinking or moving the eye as much as possible.
Avoid bright lights: If the injured eye is sensitive to light, try to keep the eye covered or in a darkened room to reduce discomfort and further irritation.
Remember, Stay calm, do not rub or touch the eye, and seek professional medical care as soon as possible to prevent any complications and preserve your vision.
Stay proactive and prioritize your eye health! Wishing you a reflective and meaningful Good Friday.
