As the spread of COVID-19 continues, big stock market moves, both up and down, have become the norm. Amid these drastic market swings, many of my clients have been asking me how long this will last. At this point, the future is unknown and will likely rely on a couple of key features, including the COVID-19 containment timeline and fiscal governmental support plans.
What is known is, just as storms pass, so will this. In the past few weeks, we have experienced market volatility, as the S&P 500 Index has closed either up or down 4% or more for a record seven consecutive days. Riding these waves of uncertainty, we have officially moved into a bear market storm.
Riding out the strong winds and roaring waves today marked a moment of calm. As the seas settled, we might have witnessed a possible sign that the storm is passing. As we enter the potential eye of the storm, we are looking for characteristics of a low in the markets.
It is likely we will see more movement in the markets going forward. But, as more data regarding COVID-19 containment and government assistance comes out, we are confident in knowing we have prepared for this. Having a financial plan in place, staying the course, and weathering the storm is what we do.
We remain steadfast at the helm to assist our clients in every situation. With our compass in one hand, and our other hand on the wheel, we continue to look forward towards the horizon. If you or anyone you know is troubled by the clouds overhead, please feel free to contact us with any concerns.
