Extreme Innovation: Human Visual Experience from Everywhere
Computer vision is rapidly becoming a ubiquitous feature of video. While AI technology is accelerating this growth, the social and ethical implications are often an afterthought for engineers. Reza Rassool, CTO of RealNetworks, will present at the HPA Tech Retreat Feb 17, 2020 on the latest results in the demographic dependencies on facial recognition as reported by NIST. He reports on the performance of Real's SAFR computer vision platform and specifically outlines the key guidelines for deliberately engineering fairness (low-bias) into AI models.
The agenda includes:

Extreme Innovation: Human Visual Experience from Everywhere
The limits of camera engineering are being pushed at every extreme, from the microscopic to the gargantuan, from Arctic to volcanic, from oceanic floors to the outer reaches of space, and at every square inch around us. Can we see everything we’d ever want to see? And if we can, what will that tell us? Your eyes will be tantalized by the image menagerie we have in store. NASA, Oceanic Exploration, other far sighted opportunities that we can relate to M&E.

About SAFR
SAFR from RealNetworks (www.safr.com) is the world’s foremost computer vision platform for live video. With exceptional accuracy tuned for rapid performance, the computer vision solution instantly detects and matches millions of faces under the challenging real-world conditions presented by live video: faces in motion, at varying angles, under poor lighting, or partially obscured. SAFR’s flexible, powerful SDKs bring visual intelligence to the edge, tapping the power of AI and deep learning to improve safety, increase convenience, and deepen personalization in everyday living.

4 年My two favorite classes at UCLA were Intro to Artificial Intelligence and (believe it or not) Ethics in Engineering. The latter more so because it was taught by Dean Emeritus Dr. Russell O'Neil who was just awesome. Cool to see your talk combining these two fascinating topics. Wish I could make it to hear it!
