Extending our Support for Ukraine
The crisis in Ukraine is affecting people and families, both inside the country and increasingly around the world.?We’ve seen the global community open their hearts and homes to innocent people from all backgrounds who are fleeing Ukraine in search of safety.
Today we are increasing our financial support for Ukraine to $500,000, to help refugees seeking to resettle in Canada. This includes support with housing, food, clothing, and other necessities so that they can grow and rebuild here. We’re also accepting donations from Canadians through the CIBC Foundation that will go to community organizations supporting these refugees as they arrive, and waiving fees on wire transfers to Ukraine to help Canadians send money to loved ones.
We are activating support on the ground to help families build a foundation here in Canada for the longer term, including offering free banking services to help them get established financially, and working with community organizations to identify employment opportunities.
I’m proud of our CIBC team, who have come together to donate almost $100,000 to date to organizations providing humanitarian aid. As we have done in recent years to support Afghan and Syrian refugees coming to Canada, our bank is committed to providing real help to refugees of all backgrounds from Ukraine, both today and over the long term.
Thank you to the many volunteers from community organizations working tirelessly to help those in need. You have our support and partnership.????
