First, let's start with the book of the week. With Black History Month in full swing, this week I chose to go with “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This book is nothing short of amazing, but be forewarned that it is utterly heartbreaking. I read once that the author based many of the aspects and characters on actual events and people that were learned about via actual documents or letters from the time. This book was published in two volumes in 1852 and it is argued that it helped to lay the groundwork for the Civil War. I’ve read it 3x and would definitely read it again.?

Calling all grapplers and future grapplers. The small business of the week is Six Blades Jiu Jitsu Keller. My friend Tiago has recently opened his Six Blades Jiu Jitsu school in Keller, TX and the schedule is live. Tiago Pereira is an amazing teacher and his jiu jitsu is held high as one of the best in the world. If you train or you’ve been wanting to try it and you live near Keller then this is your chance to invest your time and training in one of the best schools with one of the best teachers in the world. Trial classes are FREE. Take your kids and let them try it. My kids train jiu jitsu and they love it. I train jiu jitsu and I love it. It’s an amazing sport. Go visit and let me know what you think.?

Now, let's focus on personal development via solid content and insight on LinkedIn. One person you should follow on is David Baughman. David is a fractional executive, phenomenal leader and speaker, and I’ve followed him on LinkedIn for quite awhile. Not just because I love his haircut either. He posts great insight about operations and executive-based scenarios. He has a mild cult following and founded one of the greatest fractional executive companies in DFW, Fractional Executive Solutions. Make sure to follow him and FES. You won’t be sorry.?

The podcast of the week is “In Between Sales Calls” with Derek Shebby. Now I know that I mentioned Derek as a person you should follow on LinkedIn in a prior newsletter and now I’m hitting you with his podcast. Call it a double feature. Now everyone that sends out a million cold emails for sales may get offended here, BUT to remain objective you can’t argue that your ROI is sound here. Specifically listen to Episode 63, “50,990 Unread Emails.” It is 14 minutes long and Derek goes into why emails should be your main conduit for sales and why picking up the phone is still the champ when it comes to sales.

Finally, let’s get to the real meat of this newsletter and the Lord’s word. I am going to tie back into the before mentioned book of the week and one of my favorite parts where Tom is reading from his Bible and the verse “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” - John 14: 1-2

  • Having learned late in life, Tom was but a slow reader, and passed on laboriously from verse to verse. Fortunate for him was it that the book he was intent on was one which slow reading cannot injure,—nay, one whose words, like ingots of gold, seem often to need to be weighed separately, that the mind may take in their priceless value. Let us follow him a moment, as, pointing to each word, and pronouncing each half aloud, he reads, "Let—not—your—heart—be—troubled. In—my—Father's—house—are—many—mansions. I—go-to—prepare—a—place—for—you."

In conclusion, I hope by focusing on one or all of these five areas of your life, you can extend your reach and accelerate your growth. I hope this newsletter has been helpful and I look forward to sharing more with you in the future!
