Expressing my heartfelt gratitude (and disbelief!)

[Writing this as an article as it exceeds the maximum character limit allowed on a post]. Before the LinkedIn police arrive (saying "this article isn't meant for Linkedin, you should post it on Facebook"), yes I agree. But there is a reason why I am posting this here. You'll find out, if you read through.

Hope everyone is safe.

Thank you friends for liking, commenting on and sharing my daughter's drawing done for the online art competition, I had mentioned in my previous post.

The theme of the competition was 'Defeating Covid19 & build a better world'. When I told her about this topic, she thought the only way for us to overcome this lock down was by locking up Covid19. So, the drawing is a reflection of her thought process.

Although there had been a parallel selection done for the picture that received the most likes, the selection of her drawing had been done by a jury panel for the presentation of the given theme, artistic standard and the overall impression. Hence, we had no say in the selection process.

When the results were announced, she wasn't the happiest on hearing that she's the 2nd runner up. However, on explaining that being the first is not what matters, but participation is, she smiled and asked "I still have a place ne Ammi, so that's good?".

While we as adults have to set an example for our children to become better human beings, there comes a lady commenting on my daughter's photo, saying "i hate your stupid thing ??????????" (a screenshot is attached with her name censored, because I don't want to embarrass anyone in public). This lady isn't personally known to me or my family. I checked out her Facebook and LinkedIn profiles. Apparently, she is a Director of a reputed tourism company. She isn't my 1st degree connection on LinkedIn but this post may reach her, for sure. And I hope it does!

The Institute that held the competition (BCAS) was extremely professional in handling this situation. They deleted the hate comments immediately, on notifying.

My questions is, what do people which such mentalities teach their children? What examples do they set as "Leaders" of companies? Such disgraceful behaviour!?!!

I'm beyond shocked & disgusted that anyone would respond with such stupidity and vitriol towards a child's achievements. That being said, I would've recommended against using LinkedIn to publish your daughters artwork since that kind of post belongs on Facebook. Nonetheless, I still stand shocked & disgusted with whoever that person is.

Congratulations for your daughter’s beautiful meaningful work. Sad to see that comment on the wall but what we should understand is there are people with so much jealous and dislikes when someone showing their capabilities despite the gender , children or adults . Take it easy and be more strong.

The evolution of social media has become a catalyst for hate. Hate and jealous are really big reasons for issues in our world today... I am deeply saddened that her issues were directed at your little daughter. (Also she could be suffering from a form of mental disorder)

Unbelievable! How could someone take it out on a child like that?
