I've been to a couple of interesting #events over the last few weeks showcasing #exporting #success stories in the #northwest region here in #England.

First up on 13 March 2023, appropriately enough on #CommonwealthDay2023, was the Cheshire Commonwealth Association #Commonwealth Day Conference held at Alderley Park (with Kath Mackay telling us about its place in the community and work with #businesses trading around the world). Following welcomes from David Briggs and Lady Redmond there were some really inspirational stories from exporters in our region Maria Sarkar MBE at DriveWorks , Barry Leahey MBE at Playdale Playgrounds Ltd and Masih Alam at Immundnz Ltd. - preparation, preparation, preparation seems to be the key. We also heard about the knowledge base right here in #Cheshire with Kirstie Simpson telling us how the University of Chester attracts several intakes of #internationalstudents a year.

On 27 March I went to the Insider Media event “Made in #Liverpool Sold to the #World”. The event was opened by Liz Bennington and Joanne Anderson , a great advocate for the city and wider region. There were great presentations on #LCRexport from Hemingway Janet ?at iiCON: Infection Innovation Consortium , Simon Reid at Growth Platform , Jordan Van Flute at Inovus Medical and Fiona Costello at? ORCHA and chat with Paul Kallee-Grover MBE at Ki Partnerships Ltd about how to do it and a reminder to be authentic

Tom O'Brien and Michael Green spoke about the #liverpoolcityregion #freeport one of eight in #England with a further two in #Scotland and two in #Wales.

There are three components to the LCR Freeport :-

• The first element is the tax sites.?Companies locating and expanding in the tax sites get significant tax breaks. In our region they are all good sites fantastically located In Wirral Waters (at #Birkenhead docks where Peel L&P is a key player), the Mersey Multimodal Gateway (in #Widnes ?where Stobart are involved) and Parkside (in #StHelens a joint venture between Langtree and St Helens Council ).
• The second element is the customs sites. The first one in the Liverpool City Region is a site in St Helens run by SSO Logistics but there is a pipeline of these defined areas approved by HMRC.?Goods coming into the customs sites pay no VAT or duty until they are released to the #UK market so there is a cash flow benefit as such payments are delayed. If the goods are processed and then exported either no duty is paid or lesser amounts as appropriate.
• The third element is ￡25 million for central government to pay for infrastructure and help for companies to access advice relating to freeports

Neill Briggs talked about the technology used in the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) #supercars and other applications for it. Hao Pang at Quantum Science Ltd is at the front of #deepscience - I can't even get the periodic table questions on #UniversityChallenge - ?so what his #business is doing sounds amazing.

Finally we heard from Kevin Hollinrake MP on the #government's 12 point plan for #exporting of which he highlighted that the government's Export Support Service as a one stop shop, the #UKExportAcademy will help overcome the challenges of first time exporting, export champions who will share their experience and UK Export Finance is a government export credit agency offering a range of financial products.
