Exploring the World of Linux: Part 1 - Setting Up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lab

Introduction:

Greetings, LinkedIn community! I am excited to share my recent Linux lab experience with you in this series of posts. In this first part, I'll take you through the process of setting up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environment using VMware Workstation. This is just the beginning, as I plan to dive deeper into Linux, exploring various commands, and sharing my journey with you.

Creating a Red Hat Account:

Before we embark on our Linux journey, it's essential to mention that to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux, you'll need to create an account on the Red Hat website. This account plays a crucial role during the installation process. Head over to the Red Hat website (https://www.redhat.com) and sign up for an account if you haven't done so already. This account will be linked to your subscription and grants you access to updates, support, and other resources.

Setting Up VMware Workstation:

Once you have your Red Hat account ready, the next step is to set up your virtual environment using VMware Workstation. If you haven't installed VMware Workstation yet, you can download it from the official VMware website.

  1. Launch VMware Workstation and click on "Create a New Virtual Machine."
  2. Choose "Typical" for the configuration option.
  3. Select "Installer disc image file (iso)" and browse to the location where you have downloaded the Red Hat Enterprise Linux ISO file.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the virtual machine setup.

Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux:

With VMware Workstation configured, it's time to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux on your virtual machine.

  1. Start the virtual machine and select the option to boot from the ISO image.
  2. Follow the Red Hat installation wizard, providing the necessary information, including your Red Hat account credentials.
  3. Select your preferred installation type, customize the software packages if desired, and proceed with the installation process.

Completing the Installation:

After the installation is complete, you'll have a fresh Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment ready to explore. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the interface and basic commands.

Stay tuned for the upcoming posts in this series, where I'll delve into essential Linux commands, tips, and tricks that will enhance your Linux skills. I'm thrilled to share this Linux journey with you, and I hope you find the information valuable.

Feel free to share your thoughts, questions, or any specific topics you'd like me to cover in the comments section. Let's build a vibrant Linux community together!
