Exploring the world of digital nomadism and over 50s entrepreneurship

Hi there! I'm excited to introduce you to my newsletter, where I'll be sharing my insights and experiences in the areas of startups, singing, and sex. These are my three main passions, and I've turned them into three successful businesses: Startup School for Seniors, Sex Advice for Seniors, and my semi-pro jazz and blues singing career. I like to think of myself as a polymath, someone who enjoys tackling complex problems and isn't afraid of taking risks.

But enough about me - I'm sure you're wondering what my newsletter has to offer. As a digital nomad currently living in sunny Spain, I'll be sharing my insights on living and working remotely and my experiences working with people over 50. I'm passionate about helping this group of people achieve their goals and dreams, whether that's through starting their own businesses, connecting with others, or challenging negative stereotypes about ageing.

In my newsletter, you'll also find updates on Startup School for Seniors. It is an eight-week or two-week online course that teaches those over 50s how to start their own businesses, and it's currently being developed into a new course called 'Develop your Creative Business,' both starting on 13th January. You can find out more here. Thanks to the GLA/Learn Ealing, we have funded places for Londoners resident in the UK or more, and the course costs ￡385 for all others. One of our most recent participants made a profit before the course completion.

The podcast I co-host with Peter Marriott, Sex Advice for Seniors, was featured last week in the Metro newspaper and The Sun after we decided to open an associated sex toy shop aimed at those over 50. I should not be surprised that this side project has taken off, with nearly 50k followers on our TikTok channel and millions of views. Older people have been terribly maligned in this area, and we have been encouraged by the many positive comments we have received since we started six months ago.

Everyone should have the right to experience sexual pleasure, no matter their age. In our podcast, we've tackled important and ignored topics, such as intimacy in care home settings, being in a relationship with a neurodiverse person, sexual health problems that arise in later life, and sex and disability.

Finally, in my late fifties, I returned to singing and performing, which I had stopped to raise a family, having been in a band in my youth. I started singing lessons and was lucky enough, thanks to my teacher being a performer herself, to guest at some gigs that led to me getting booked by the venues at which I performed. Come the spring, and I have a busy calendar of the two shows I do, one about the lyricist Dorothy Fields, who wrote Hey Big Spender and 400 other songs from the 1920s-40s and a Dirty Blues Show, which is very much in the spirit of the early Bette Midler - filthy and fun!
