Exploring St. Mary's Church, Warwick: A Journey Through Time with RIVR
In an exciting new project, RIVR, a company specializing in historical immersive interpretation and scanning, has ventured up the scaffolding at St. Mary's Church in Warwick, England. Utilizing the innovative Polycam app and a smartphone, Alex Harvey from RIVR captured photogrammetry scans of five unique items high up on the historic church.
This undertaking comes as the church undergoes extensive renovation work, having successfully raised over a million UK pounds to support the preservation of its architectural beauty and historical significance.
Dame Judi Dench, a renowned British actress, lent her support to the fundraising efforts by recording a heartfelt video appeal, expressing the importance of the church to her and the wider community. Her appeal played a significant role in helping the church reach its fundraising goals, demonstrating the impact of public support for the preservation of historical landmarks.
Throughout the renovation process, specialist stone masons have meticulously worked on restoring the church's intricate details. Apex Scaffolding, responsible for constructing the scaffolding, ensured a safe environment for visitors and workers alike. Their impressive work has facilitated the preservation and documentation of St. Mary's Church.
In the coming weeks, RIVR will return to the site and ascend the tower alongside local historians to film their journey in virtual reality, as well as capture standard 2D documentary footage. This immersive approach allows viewers at home to experience historical sites like never before. Photogrammetry enables the creation of accurate 3D models, preserving real-world places for future generations to explore and appreciate.
Explore the 3D models from St. Mary's Church, Warwick, as captured by Alex Harvey during his trip up the scaffolding. These models can be viewed on phones, tablets, computers, and even in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) environments. All models are hosted on Sketchfab.
